KENYON COX, American Artist of the Golden Age
Kenyon Cox was born in Ohio and studied at the Cincinnati Art School, then the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, following that he decided to pursue training in Paris under Jean Leon Gerome. His drawing skills were recognized from the start and he remained in Paris for five years. His love for the figure and devotion to the Ideal in Art was a lifelong interest, He became a popular instructor at the Art Students League in New York City and later ventured into writing on Art and his thoughts on painting are spot on. His son Alyn was also a gifted painter.

Another great video and history of, for me, at least, another unknown artist. Especially interesting were the comments on the nude in art, the attitude of the general public vs. what some artists were trying to do. The late 1800s were a time of changing attitudes and morals, at least in the West (America, Europe, parts of Russia). It might be an interesting video exploration of those attitudes, artists vs. the public and how things have changed (or haven't). I've always thought painting, at its best, tells a story, and the characters that are cast in telling the stories must dress the part (or undress, if that is how the story is best told) to get the story across. These videos, IMHO, along with the illustration of high craft, also focuses in the story-telling, which is wonderful and an inspiration to see Bravo! Looking forward to more.
