Spot. On. Kent doesn't like being spoken to in a way he 'perceives' is being spoken to like a child, when all Clint Newton did was remain calm. Kent shows little emotional intelligence and is just a bully. He thinks his worth to the game is far more important than it actually is.

Paul and hooper are two of the worst media member ever. He’s so disrespectful as a former player if you can call him one. Mr one nrl game. He’s a journalist that has bias in all he talks about. Good journalist use facts but these jokes of journalist use their personal agenda to make up stories, make small changes to information and leave important information out to make up their narrative. Kent is always interrupting others while their answering questions. If I was Clint Newton I would have given him one warning to stop interrupting my answers. If he continued interrupting I would have simply told him he would never interview me again and hung up. Then Paul Kent might have to go out and get a real job!

Let's be real Newton as head of the players assoc has direct lines to people at NRL HQ.He should use them to discuss supposed differences etc rather than bleating. Newton is not strong enough to stand up to likes of DCE and has become a puppet for a group of elite players.

This is because rugby union didn’t go off half cocked and make a rash decision. It was brought in at the beginning of the season after consultation with ex players and coaches. There system also has yellow card , sin bin and send off. The other situation is that their refs consult with their bunker and ask if the player may of contributed to the head high due to his action in the tackle prior to making a judgment call. A much better system than what league has put together

Staggering that Kent thinks players shouldn't get more than a "small say" in running the game?!?! Ironic that Kent was so dismissive of Williams' mental health last week while Kent himself seems to be having a Mental breakdown at the moment- hope he gets the help he needs.

The monotone voice ,the well rehearsed long winded verbiage and the refusal to give a straight answer Sounds like a Corporate politician with a few arrogant put downs thrown in for good measure. My God how does the RLPA actually get anything done with this guy as their mouthpiece ? Newton would be better off learning how to communicate directly instead of playing off a well rehearsed script of avoidance . Absolute time waster .

Can journos please stop turning the game into a soap opera? Players just want to be part of the discussion. Paul Kent wants to talk over them. There's this attitude that players have to learn their place if they want the continued privilege of playing. The game doesn't exist without players. Consult them before you make sudden rule changes. You know it’s bad when buzz is the voice of reason

The exact same conversation happened when punching was cracked down on. “It’ll ruin the game!” Head high tackles have never been allowed. With players being bigger, stronger and more powerful than ever before head trauma is more dangerous than ever. You can’t toughen your brain in a preseason. Is 10 minutes the answer? No, clearly not. Would 5 minutes work? Maybe. Let’s find out. Why not bring the sin binned player back if the opposition scores any points during their time in the bin. It would stop two tries being scored in 10 minutes and the games getting blown out.

The punching crack down did ruin the game you muppet. What did it stop? They run in and shirt grab and slap more than they ever did before. Players are baiting each other to punch so they can get an opponent sent off. Just like the head high sin bin, players are staying down now for any collision because a sin bin can win them a game. It wont stop high tackles because high tackles were not intentional, they're accidental. You cant stop an accident by punishing and accident. By definition, you have no control of it. penalize

I disagree and don’t particularly care about blokes punching on during a game. TV ratings are higher now than they ever were and club memberships are on the rise. Saying the game is ruined is incorrect. High tackles are accidental in most circumstances however there’s plenty of players just slinging an arm out and collecting a bloke high. That’s lazy. Most teams have a few key offenders that are always hitting players high. They need to work on their tackling technique to stop getting sin binned. The point of the sin binning was to highlight the zero tolerance for high shots. It’s worked because it’s all people are talking about and now coaches are working to overcome it. As I said 10 minutes isn’t the answer but just blowing a penalty wasn’t the answer either.

Ben is spot on regarding the AFL laughing at the NRL fighting among itself. I have no problem with protecting the players, but the crackdown should've been brought in at the start of the season.

This could be the first KZread video in history where the comment section is more civil than the "conversation" in the video..

Game is in a mess. Only admin is responsible. Time for a big change.

Interesting that the NRL had said they had numerous consultations with players and clubs, yet no one seemed to really understand what types of penalties for different degrees of headhigh tackles. That it was implemented halfway through the season. The game is definitely going in a direction that the NRL are not capable of turning back. To say your all about player safety yet the number 1 cause of concussions is not headhigh tackles, blatant or accidental. For sure should Origin become the farce that the game is now, he should be removed as well as the other members.

the players and league should all put some coin aside and start a fund for their later care if they don't mind the consequences!

I actually like kents work as a rule, but hes dropped the ball badly on this one. Its not about the need to mitigate concussions as thats a given. Its how its been executed and how media people cant prosecute how this is being handled. With media standing in this great game comes responsibility. Lift your game.

What Kent did was reprehensible but i do miss him, he was one of the best commentators on the show. The first time (a long time ago) i turned on NRL360 & saw Braith Anasta as the new host i said to myself WTF this guy will be hopeless but he has proved me wrong. Not the best commentator but he is a capable host. Well done Braith. I am not condoning Kent's behaviour. In the end Foxtel had no choice.
