Kenny Carter - Hero to Villain

Спорт

What a Speedway rider Kenny Carter was. The hero that never won a World Individual Final but by gosh did he want to win one. But the fiery Yorkshire man had dark finish to his life that no one saw coming, a shooting that took the life of his wife and Kenny. This video is a montage of his Speedway racing highlights. Thanks for watching.

Remember Kenny from his Newcastle days used to go with my old dad. Still have an autograph book with his signature in it. A truly tragic story.

@@artsbridgesowerby3870 Murder is the ultimate abuse and in his case a waste of two still young lives. But he was a genius on a bike and had led a tragic troubled life even without the Penhall /WC incident. Nowadays you would hope people in a similar position could get the help they so obviously need. Not condoning his actions & respect your comment. Yours in sport.

Penhall responded when Carter bounced into him multiple times. As far as Bruce knocking him down l was to far away to tell. If he did l wonder why Kenny would stay outside after initiating contact a lap earlier. I read the book his road racing brother Alan wrote. It seems that Kenny was pretty scarred from his childhood and that ultimately led to his demise. Bruce Penhall also had to deal with the loss of a parent when both of his were killed in a plane crash in the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Dear Martyn, I can't remember if ive already commented on this one as i work crazy shifts driving Lorries etc up at 0130 hrs etc. Kenny was amazing. I think the only time i saw him live was at 1981 World Final. He was electric. My Dad said he broke the track record at Edinburgh Powderhall Stadium on his first ride but i was probably away in the Army then. What a racer. I think they all have an edge but he had more than most. If he had seeked help he would have been a multiple World Champion. Really sad when i watch all his stuff on You Tube. Steve in Fife.

Hi martyn. Excellent video. Possibly a flawed genius. Wanted to win so much. Very passionate about England. I seem to remember Simmo guesting for Eastbourne and in heat one kidded kenny into going through the tapes he wasn’t happy !!! Tragic ending so very sad. Great insight you put together. Still can’t get my head round Nigel Pearson. Cruel world Thanks again Martyn keep up the good work

Such a good rider, passionate and tough. As a side issue regarding Halifax speedway, I remember when Blue Peter did a feature on Ian Cartwright, part of it speedway the other looking at his carpentry/ furniture making, which as I recall always featured a mouse as part of the carving. Long time ago..... sorry about the useless info.

He was a friend of mine when we were 15, It was unreal what happened, I still live today only a mile from where Mal Carter s farm is, dont think they own it now though., use to go up there and buy illegal CB radios of Mal in the 80s, Pharoah (sp?) garage still stands today but is a car showroom now.

Great video Martyn. My love of speedway was born while watching KC and The Dukes in 83 at the Shay as wide eyed 11 year old. Kenny was such a determined rider and a natural fully committed competitor. An absolute tragedy how it ended.

Domestic abuse too often ends in murder-suicide. There is no doubt that Kenny carter had some form of trauma that ultimately led to his abusive behaviour. However, no one in the public eye gets away with that stuff so it is strange to see someone mourned for their "tragic loss" which was part of domestic abuse

He was a villain because he believed his wife was cheating on him. So In May 1986 he shot her with a shotgun, then shot himself. The headstone clip is the only thing in this video that gives a clue. In all honesty, had my daughter been his wife, I would have smashed that headstone with a sledgehammer.
