Kenny Anderson: Lefrak City's Hero

Спорт

Kenny Anderson was one of the most prolific, and exciting players to ever play in the ACC. Mr Chibbs, as he is known, brought the street game to the hardwoods, and never missed a chance to shine at Georgia Tech. A lot of people know his college and pro story, but little know about his life growing up in Queens, New York. Follow Kenny as he visits his old stomping grounds from Lefrak City, to Archbishop Molloy High School, as he tells his story of how it all began. In preparation for the 2017 New York Life ACC Tournament in Brooklyn, Raycom Sports presents A Cut Above, basketball stories from a New York City barbershop.

The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) is a collegiate athletic conference in the United States in which its fifteen member universities compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA's) Division I, with its football teams competing in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), the highest levels for athletic competition in US-based collegiate sports. The ACC sponsors competition in twenty-five sports with many of its member institutions' athletic programs held in high regard nationally. ACC teams and athletes have claimed dozens of national championships in multiple sports throughout the conference's history. Generally, the ACC's top athletes and teams in any particular sport in a given year are considered to be among the top collegiate competitors in the nation.
Founded in 1953 in Greensboro, North Carolina, by seven universities located in the South Atlantic States, the conference added additional members in late 1953, 1979, 1991, 2004, and 2013. The 2004 and 2013 additions extended the conference's footprint into the Northeast and Midwest. The most recent expansion in 2013 saw the additions of the University of Notre Dame, the University of Pittsburgh, and Syracuse University. In 2012, the University of Maryland's Board of Regents voted to withdraw from the ACC to join the Big Ten Conference. On November 28, 2012, the ACC's Council of Presidents voted unanimously to invite the University of Louisville as a full member, replacing Maryland.

ArchBishop Molloy baller, Kenny Anderson, Front page NY Newsday, he was a legend then and still a legend now. You could see in the footage he was different. His handles was nasty. I wanted to be this dude so bad growing up. I got nice at dribbling behind my back because of him. I was probably in 7th grade when I first saw this cat on the headlines and a freshman in high school when he first played at Georgia Tech. He was legendary.

growin up in NYC in the 80s - kenny anderson was legendary. the riverside hawks from (harlem) manhattan, ny had a squad featuring KA & he didnt disappoint. When a freshman high schooler that is a legit 14 year old like KA dominates 16, 17, 18, & 19 year olds u know the guy is destined for greatness.

I was in grade 9 and just falling in love with the game when Kenny burst onto the college scene. Though a lefty, he was still the PG I wanted to be back then. Magic was my #1 guy but KA was just behind! Finding this video was awesome, thanks!

Hello. Kenny Anderson young brother looking to play with me in lost Battalion Recreation Queens Blvd NYC. We played together I believed him in that day. He was young brother that learn a lot from street ball. I played to just as good. He mother help him al lot and Ball players in NYC parks also. Queens had many great players Gary Springer, Kenny Paterson, lots of players in the hood. Kenny Anderson and Kenny smith they did not care about anybody just them selfies. Don't them foul you. Kenny Anderson and Kenny Smith just care about them only. They did play in Rucker's Tournament, Its all about them only. Media attention that's all. I like them put they only care about them selves. Kenny smith he would never help any body when he was coming up in sports. Remember his brother help him a lot. This is why he lost his wife. He only thinks about him self all the time, let the truth be told.
