The center that keeps a church alive is the love of neighbor and faith in truth. I deployed to a disaster in an area that had a mega church. I was so disappointed and disgusted that the mega church did not help their neighbors who had just lost everything because they did not want to get their carpets dirty. They chose carpet over people. A few months after returning home the church I was attending decided to stop doing a monthly food distribution for the same reason. I no longer attend that church. These are a couple reasons I praise God he led me to your channel. I believe people are searching for the love of neighbor and that is why your church will continue to grow. Thank you for deciding to reach out to those of us who need this type of fellowship ❤

Unfortunately, the wealthier the church, the more likely they are to worry about the physical trappings of their worship space. I know of one where they have been replacing perfectly-good cabinets, chairs and tables with new ones because the old ones looked "tacky." (One of the new cabinets was supposed to be where the choir stored their music folders, but the compartments were too small for the folders. And the new chairs are bulky and cannot be stacked if more space is needed in a room...because they all have wheels.) Smh.

The Parable of the Life-saving Station by Thomas Wedel. On a dangerous seacoast where shipwrecks often occur, there was once a crude little life¬saving station. The building was just a hut, and there was only one boat, but the few devoted members kept a constant watch over the sea, and with no thought for themselves went out day and night tirelessly searching for those who were lost. Some of those who were saved and various others in the surrounding area wanted to become associated with the station and gave of their time, money, and effort to support its work. New boats were bought and new crews trained. The little lifesaving station grew. Some of the members of the lifesaving station were unhappy that the building was so crude and poorly equipped. They felt that a more comfortable place should be provided as the first refuge of those saved from the sea. They replaced the emergency cots with beds and put better furniture in the enlarged building. Now the lifesaving station became a popular gathering place for its members, and they decorated it beautifully because they used it as a sort of club. Fewer members were now interested in going to sea on life-saving missions, so they hired lifeboat crews to do this work. The lifesaving motif still prevailed in the club’s decorations, and there was a liturgical lifeboat in the room where the club’s initiations were held. About this time a large ship wrecked off the coast, and the hired crews brought in boatloads of cold, wet, and half-drowned people. They were dirty and sick. The beautiful new club was in chaos. So the property committee immediately had a shower house built outside the club where victims of shipwrecks could be cleaned up before coming inside. At the next meeting, there was a split among the club membership. Most of the members wanted to stop the club’s lifesaving activities as being unpleasant and a hindrance to the normal social life of the club. Some members insisted upon life¬saving as their primary purpose and pointed out that they were still called a life¬saving station. But they were finally voted down and told that if they wanted to save the lives of all the various kinds of people who were shipwrecked in those waters, they could begin their own lifesaving station. So they did. As the years went by, the new station experienced the same changes that had occurred in the old. It evolved into a club, and yet another lifesaving station was founded. History continued to repeat itself, and if you visit that seacoast today, you will find a number of exclusive clubs along that shore. Shipwrecks are frequent in those waters, but most of the people drown. _“Ecumenical Review,” October, 1953_

@@deborahhoward7822 I have heard that if you pray for people that do very bad and wrong things before they have changed their ways, it only increases the negative vibrations in them. It has been found out that when parents have adopted young children from terribly abused homes or countries and the parents demonstrate cuddling, physical love adn verbal love the children often react in total rage adn fury. It is a long process. So praying for evil people will only increase the evil unless they have already changed their way or a re trying - then you can help and pray.

With the wealth that he has accumulated I wonder how much he tithes? How much of the hundreds of millions of dollars does he give? Who benefits from all of the money he has raked in over the past 50 years? Just imagine how many people could be fed housed clothed. There's a clip of him screaming at the top of his lungs about covid and people not giving as much money. He's screaming I don't care if you can't come to church. Mail wire it what ever you have to do get it here. Who does that? Is that a Christian thing to do? I'm not a church going guy but I have read the Bible. What I have seen and heard from him and other so called prosperity pastors is not what I read in the Bible. I just can't believe that they honestly believe in what the Bible teaches.

This is what I needed today. My dad remarried recently and his new wife is a Maga southern baptist from Texas. I’m not saying all people in Texas are like her, but…. She’s interesting. I live in WA state. My mom and dad raised me as spiritual, but not super religious. Facts and science were the basis of my learning while understanding there is more out there that can’t be explained and faith is important. His wife believes the Bible is a history book and those who doubt it are going to hell. I’ve been struggling with them being over because when it’s just him it’s normal, when she’s there, he’s the family’s authority and he spews the beliefs she believes. He even gave me the fossils he found in college while studying geology because they go against the age of the earth she believes. This conversation is why I’ve been struggling so much.

Reverend Ed, I enjoy your channel very much 😀 and you make me 🤔 💭. I'm reminded of what the Old Testament in the books of Eccliastes, Proverbs, and Psalms has say about the rich. " Though they have plenty; they're never full ; always greedy and grasping for more ! Our Lord admonished for people to " put their treasure 🤑 💰 🙏 in Heaven, where it'll be safe from rot, moths, theft, and decay ! Jesus also said that "You'll 😳 know them by their fruits and beware of wolves in the sheep pen; beware of false prophets and false teachers! " Sadly, far too many people have embraced a lie and no longer think for themselves !

This is a literal quote from Kenneth Copeland, “It’s Abraham, Issac, Jacob, our Lord Jesus, and George.” Christian nationalism has sadly blinded the eyes of so many people in America. Any message where Jesus is the means but not the goal is not Christianity. It is idolatry. Once the church becomes fearful and has an attitude of despair, they become gullible. Once the church becomes polluted with political and nationalistic aspirations (Christian nationalism), it loses its vision and becomes a victim of heresy. It looks for a false savior to replace Christ as its head. So, they end up going along with a false savior and a false gospel. This is exactly what we're seeing with Trumpism. I thank God for showing me that you have let go of America and this world. If you try to mix nationalism, patriotism, politics, etc. with your faith, you’ll get a “Christianity” that is far different from biblical Christianity. And this was the “Christianity” that I had for most my life. I grew up in a conservative Christian household and attended a non-denominational church when I was younger. The church was very charismatic. Every Sunday, people were running around waving flags and hollering. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that. I'm just trying to paint you a picture. The pastor spoke in "tongues" or gibberish as I call it, and so did many in the congregation. I remember being in prayer circles where that's all you heard. And for the longest time, I thought something was wrong with me because I couldn't speak in tongues. There were times of the Benny Hinn "slaying of the spirit" stuff happening. I, unfortunately, grew up believing Joel Osteen, Kenneth Copeland, Joyce Meyers, and Benny Hinn were true preachers. My family members listened to these individuals. And because of the influence of the church, I thought prosperity was tied to faith. I'm not trying to judge the pastor, but the pastor's family had one income and lived better than most people in the congregation. Many of the church members mixed politics and faith. Growing up, I always just had this perception that the GOP was “God’s party” and the Democrats were evil because of the narrative of the church. However, I realized how the devil was dividing me from the mission field. This creates an us vs. them narrative. And the conversation usually doesn’t have any room for love, compassion, grace, mercy, and forgiveness which are supposed to be the cornerstones of Christianity. And I, like most Americans, was greatly influenced by patriotism and nationalism. My identity was found in these things. I had a worldly "Americanized" version of Christianity (Christian nationalism). I don’t blame anyone but myself because I never studied God's Word to know the truth. I was adding all this other stuff to my faith. I was more shaped and influenced by the things of this world. I thought that just because I said the sinners’ prayer, was a good person and went to church that I was a Christian. However, there was no sign of a new creation. I didn’t turn from my sins. I never took the time to study God’s Word to allow His Word and the Holy Spirit to help me walk in the truth. I didn’t have a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and didn’t have saving faith. I wasn’t focused on exalting Him. I wasn't focused on His Kingdom and the will of God. I was also influenced by FOX News, Rush Limbaugh, and Glenn Beck. This was more so later in my life. But I listened to these political commentators as though they were the gospel truth. And all they did was instill fear, a sense of panic, and hatred toward the Democrats, as they would talk about how awful Obama, Hillary, and the left were, and how they were trying to destroy our country. I didn't realize how their messages of fear, paranoia, and hatred were shaping me. I became a prepper. I was more shaped and influenced by the things of this world (political commentators, the news, my conservative family and friends, false worldly pastors, politics, nationalism, patriotism, pride, vanity, etc.) than I was by the Word of God. I realize now how all these worldly strongholds kept my focus on the things of this world when the Bible tells us to come out of this world and “be ye separate.” And all these things led me to what I call an "Americanized patriotic Christianity" that was far different from Biblical Christianity. A patriotic Christianity where you subconsciously live for America as though it's the kingdom of God. I was serving two masters and not serving the Lord Jesus Christ wholeheartedly. All of this could have been prevented had I just taken the time to study God's Word and truly sought the Lord. Going back to 2016, I was all about this world. I subconsciously found my identity in being a proud American patriot. I was a veteran. I was a Republican. I was a prepper. I was stocking up on guns, ammo, and supplies. I was caught up in the pre-tribulation rapture teaching, and I regretfully voted for Trump. I had no idea who he truly was other than the image that he was selling. I fell into the trap of voting for the 'lesser' of two evils and I of course chose the ‘lesser evil’ that aligned with the party I supported.

In 2018, God convicted me of how I was allowing ‘worldly things’ to shape my thinking - rather than following His Word 100%. He showed me how I was more focused on America than I was on the kingdom of God. I was more focused on creating a prideful vain image and a name for myself in this world. My identity was found in the things of this world instead of in Christ alone. I was divided against the mission field instead of being about the Lord's great commission. I was full of hatred and not the love of God. And I wasn't being obedient to the Word of God. In 1st Samuel, the Bible tells us a spirit had come over King Saul that came over him made him very unhappy. He was jealous of King David. And multiple times he tried to kill David by throwing a spear at him. His worrying seemed to drive him nearly mad and he would behave like a crazy man. And David would play music on his harp to help calm King Saul. The bad fruit that King Saul was bearing was that of worry, jealousy, anger, violence, pride, worldliness, power, etc. Today, many professing Christians are bearing the same type of bad fruit. Jesus said that we would know a tree by its fruit. They're not full of the Holy Spirit and displaying love. They're displaying anger and violence. In 2018, I started questioning everything. I prayed to God and told Him that I wanted to know the truth. God exposed my worldliness, fear, and idolatry. I laugh at what I was going along with. Think about it... I was a prepper stocking up on stuff. I guess I thought that I was going to be ready for these last days. Meanwhile, I was convinced that a pre-tribulation rapture was going to happen at any second, while at the same time thinking that Trump was going to make America great again lol. ALL OF THIS IS ROOTED IN FEAR. I wasn't at peace with God. My faith wasn't solely in Jesus Christ. My faith was in my preparedness, my guns, my stockpile of food, the rapture, and Trump. And if Christian Trump supporters were being honest, I guarantee most of them would say the same thing. They are full of fear. Their faith is in their My Patriot supply that they bought off Glenn Beck's show. Their faith is in their gold and silver. Their faith is in their stockpile of AR-15s and basement full of food. Their faith is in Trump to combat the evil and save their "heaven on earth." Well around the end of 2018, I came across a KZread channel (Brother James Key). And as I began to listen to the message he preached, it changed my life! He was preaching the Good News and warning others about politics, nationalism, and worldliness. It wasn’t a message about living my best life in this world or prosperity. It wasn’t some political or nationalistic message. He was telling people to come out of Babylon and to “Be ye separate.” He was telling people to put their hope in Christ alone and to live for Him wholeheartedly. To love the Father and seek His Kingdom only. To seek the face of God, and live for Him alone. To give to Caesar what is Caesar's - pay taxes and give him his filthy lucre, but to give to God what is God's - give Him your whole heart. And that there is no place in our hearts for politics or this world. We have a Better Country. As I heard this it was like the scales came off my eyes. The biggest thing that I felt on his channel was the love of God! I watched his 8-minute “How To Be Absolutely Sure You Will Go To Heaven!” video and gave my heart to the true Lord Jesus Christ! I repented of my sins and turned from my wicked ways! I now realize that my identity is found in Christ alone. This world is not my home, and my allegiance and hope are the Lord Jesus Christ. My citizenship is in Heaven and not this world.

I got the reference. Are you "living on a steady diet of government cheese" too? Ha ha! Seriously, though...one of my first exposures to a television preacher was back in the 80s. Pastor Gary Greenwald and "The Eagle's Nest." Big 80s hair, slick suit, and he began one segment by saying "I was driving to the Tuesday night prayer meeting...in my Porsche..." He was so smug. Now, about Washington, the history shows that while he was nominally a member of the Anglican Church, he rarely attended, and when he did, often left before communion. It was only later that he became more publicly observant, but Rev. James Abercrombie, whose Episcopal church the first President sometimes attended, said (writing to a correspondent) "Sir, Washington was a Deist." Thank you for taking the time out of living in a van down by the river to record this.

I did my graduate work in Applied Experimental Psychology. My thesis advisor (who was also the department's graduate programs coordinator) was a devout Roman Catholic. It was never a topic of discussion because it wasn't a relevant topic to us. His faith was occasionally evident when events occurred that called upon him to respond from his faith. Otherwise, he was simply an authentic and genuine whole person. Belief lies outside of empiricism and hypothesis testing. There is no conflict between practicing science and embracing that which can only be accepted through belief because it lies outside of our capacity to detect, measure, and demonstrate. As Neil deGrasse Tyson says, There's far more room for religion in science than there is for science in religion.

The Copelands used to be the real deal. He taught Bible truth …UNTIL… he gained massive wealth. Love of money is a sin (not money itself). These days, many of the highly successful televangelist are protecting their wealth. The WORD says it’s harder for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into heaven. I’m probably not quoting the passage perfectly, but you get the jest. It hurts my heart that the Holy Spirit has pulled me away from the teaching of several of my favorite pastors. Also, my personal favorite part of Scripture is the tale of the Good Samaritan. I could probably do a whole half hour long discussion of it and I'm not even a minister. Er, not a trained minister. Technically as a Quaker we have a priesthood of all believers. I once told my partner that if I only had one story from all the Bible, and didn't have the rest of the Bible at all I would choose that passage. I'd love to see your take on it if you haven't done s video on it already.

I use a variation of Luke 16:10 when I talk about the still small voice and what the dynamic looks like as we learn to interact with it. At first, we get hints about small things to see if we're listening. And we are likely to dismiss the thought as too random. But then something will happen to confirm that thought was legit, and so the next time we get a nudge, and we follow it, life is a little better. With repeated trusting of the voice, the voice trusts us with bigger things, better responses, etc.

I think Kenneth Copeland, and the others of the prosperity gospel set, take the parable of the talents literally. If it is meant to be taken literally, then some of us, not in their camp, are in trouble. I've always looked at it as a metaphor of giving and sharing with others instead of being selfish. 🤔

As anot her of those non-believers who finds wisdom in your words, I agree with you. In the MAGA culture, there are a lot of people who see wealth in deceiving the faithful and will say anything to remove money from their pocket. Kenneth Copeland is just the richest of those charlatans. The worst part is that many in that movement exist in a state of accepting of what they are told, whether it is Kenneth or Donald, they believe what they want to believe and there is no talking them down from their position.

Matthew 19:21 Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” But when the young man heard what Jesus said, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. Then said Jesus unto his disciples, "Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall never enter into the kingdom of heaven. And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God."

Say: If ye be seekers after this life and the vanities thereof, ye should have sought them while ye were still enclosed in your mothers' wombs, for at that time ye were continually approaching them, could ye but perceive it. Ye have, on the other hand, ever since ye were born and attained maturity, been all the while receding from the world and drawing closer to dust. Why, then, exhibit such greed in amassing the treasures of the earth, when your days are numbered and your chance is well-nigh lost? Will ye not, then, O heedless ones, shake off your slumber? Incline your ears to the counsels which this Servant giveth you for the sake of God. He, verily, asketh no recompense from you and is resigned to what God hath ordained for Him, and is entirely submissive to God's Will. The days of your life are far spent, O people, and your end is fast approaching. Put away, therefore, the things ye have devised and to which ye cleave, and take firm hold on the precepts of God, that haply ye may attain that which He hath purposed for you, and be of them that pursue a right course. Delight not yourselves in the things of the world and its vain ornaments, neither set your hopes on them. Let your reliance be on the remembrance of God, the Most Exalted, the Most Great. He will, erelong, bring to naught all the things ye possess. Let Him be your fear, and forget not His covenant with you, and be not of them that are shut out as by a veil from Him.
