Kennedy Center Honours Neil Diamond Part 5

2011 WASHINGTON - The good times never seemed so good for Neil Diamond.
Known for his songs that have become anthems at ballparks and bars, Diamond was chosen Wednesday to receive the Kennedy Center Honors this year along with some of the biggest names from Broadway, jazz, classical music and Hollywood.
Diamond will be honored with Broadway singer Barbara Cook, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, saxophonist Sonny Rollins and actress Meryl Streep for their contributions to American culture through the arts. President Barack Obama will salute the artists and others will perform in their honor at a ceremony at the Kennedy Center on Dec. 4. CBS will broadcast the show Dec. 27.
Diamond said he was "flying way above sea level" when he heard about the honor.
"I've watched, and I've seen, and I've even dreamed that someday that would happen to me," he told The Associated Press. "But I never really believed that it would."
Diamond said he used to get distracted when people sang along with him to hits like "Sweet Caroline," which was written for presidential daughter Caroline Kennedy who hosts the show.
"But I realized pretty quickly that it was a compliment, and I had no choice in the matter anyway, so I got with the program and just learned to love it," said Diamond, who earlier this year was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He said he's planning another U.S. tour next summer after performing abroad recently.
The 70-year-old Diamond also tweeted Wednesday that he was engaged to a woman named Katie -- but wouldn't tell AP who she was so that she wouldn't "change her mind."

As a fan of Neil's since his early recordings, I found the entire Kennedy Center presentation first class. Loved it all. Made me tear up a few times for sure but one thing is very clear, Neil Diamond and his music will live on for generations.

Neil Diamond was in 1977, four days on Tour in Netherland.there were problems with the Hammond organ (117 Volt America-Europe 220 Volt) I'm approached by Lou van Rees Management for a solution to my Hammond Rent.After four days I got my B3 Hammond returned with Fire spots of @t frustrated me.They have me removed me from the Neil Diamond Fan Club because I had this listed on their site.Never Excuse of Neil Diamond ☹️🎹'
No matter who sings Neil songs, only Neil does it right, he is so modest.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; Caroline has her Dad’s sense of humor but she definitely takes after her Mom when it comes to being in the spotlight. You can see bits of Jack and Jackie in her.

Wrong, the song is not about Caroline Kennedy but about Neil's second wife Marcia. Sweet Marcia did not sound good and he needed an 3 syllable girl's name. The inspiration for the name came when he saw a cover of Time with Caroline Kennedy on it. Caroline K was only the inspiration for the name and not the subject

+contact1araya Sweet Caroline is played at Red Sox home games before the bottom of the 8th inning and the crowd always shouts "so good, so good, so good." It's become a tradition.

After the bombing after during the Boston Marathon a few years back, Neil Diamond showed up in at Fenway Park to sing the song in person to show his support. There's a strong affinity and connection between Neil and the people of Boston.
All because he couldn't find a medly for his wife Marcia @ the time
