Kenmore Elite Dryer Not Heating- DIY Repair to Save money |Mom, Fix it|

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

My dryer was not heating up to dry the laundry, but was running fine. I had a hard time finding help in fixing the issue so this video was born.
My dryer is the Kenmore Elite model # 796.69002000
I used the Service Manual found at:
www.appliancefactoryparts.com...
Sears parts:
www.searspartsdirect.com/mode...
I found the same parts on Amazon for a much affordable price.
Thank you for watching my first video.

Awesome video! It is so great to see a genuine, self-sufficient person giving REAL WORLD advice. It was hard to get past the KZread search algorithms to find a dryer close to mine, even when I searched the ACTUAL model number. I'm so glad I found your post, keep up the great work!!! Almost forgot to add the AMEN for those of us that have to repair our stuff in place instead of warehouse floors or staged work benches!

I applaud you 👏!!! That you even tried is more than 80% of folks will do. Never be afraid to try. Just be sure with electricity it is Off. With water, valves are closed before you get too far. Ive been doing these things for years, if you or any one else reading this have questions....ask away. My wife says she's proud of you!!

Thank you very much for your instructions on how to fix this dryer, way too many rip off repair companies charging way too much money ($200+) for this fix.

You are absolutely awesome! I'm a mother as well and always turn to KZread to fix my machines when they stop working. Took apart my Kenmore 700 dryer and currently troubleshooting the problem, as well! This has been the top best video out of one other that I've found! So concise and easy to understand. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!

You my dear are a godsend! I have the exact dryers at work (Children’s emergency shelter) and one of our dryers went out last Wednesday. I blindly took the exhaust and top off. I am so thrilled to have found your video, I’m off to get a multimeter and the parts will be delivered tomorrow! I will also download the service manual. A thousand thank you’s!!! I love these dryers and they have been great since 2010 for our nonprofit agency, again ❤Thank you!!!

Going to tackle this today. Your video is great! Thanks. Update: Success! My outside vent was 100% clogged, thus the thermal fuse fail. These dryers are technological wonders, it's great that the parts are so cheap now!

Excellent video, for the life of me I could not figure out how to access those parts that you changed out. Wow, I searched high and low and finally ran across your repair video. Thank you so much for doing this for everyone to enjoy. I spent a couple hours trying to figure out taking the back cover off and had to chuckle when you said "the black cover does not come off!" ha ha, thank you

update: to re install the belt on the idler I found it was easier to pull the exhaust pipe and reach in with my left arm through the hole to get the belt back on the idler. my sensors tested good but I had ordered in a set just in case. after inspecting the rollers and idler pulley they could stand to be changed out so I've ordered the set and will tackle this job again when those parts come in. thanks again for your video, it was a huge help

You have the same dryer as mine. Seems like these thermal overload fuses are very sensitive to high temperatures. Mine were caused by lint buildup in the vent piping. Happened again today so I bought a vent cleaning kit and will fix the dryer and clean the vent piping and should be back in business soon.

Your machines are sourced from LG. The first three digits on the model number (796 in your case) is a code for the manufacturer that made them for Sears.

Thanks a lot for this video. I almost ended buying a new dryer (over $400), but I paid less than $12 and with your help, I fixed it. I have this dryer since 2010, never had any issues until last weekend. I did not want to buy a new one. I found your video and I was amazed by it. Again, thanks a lot!!

Excellent presentation on taking apart the Kenmore Elite Dryer. I too attempted to access the dryer from the backside to no avail, and your video was a lifesaver. I appreciate the time you took to provide this video. You saved me a substantial amount of money having to hire a tech. I was unable to find a manual for my Kenmore Elite 796.615112210, but your linked manual appears to be 100% match with what I needed. I appreciate your since of humor at the start of the video "I don't know what to do?" That is how I truly felt when was unable to locate a service manual, until a ran across your video. I was able to replace a broken belt and a bad thermistor as a result of your video, Thank you very much.

Great job on the video. I had the same problem, I replaced all of them and rollers and belt also belt tensioner.. Heating element also. Cost was 125.00 or so on Amazon. Just got to worry about motor or controller circuit board going out now. I didn't want to take apart again. For the price got all new in it. Runs much quitter now.

I didn't see the link for the service manual. You had mentioned you'd leave the link. I have the same model dryer, it runs but won't heat up, so I'm thinking it may be the thermal fuse. NICE VIDEO, WELL DONE. THANKS

I have 2 suggestions: rather than using a file to remove the top part off, a putty knife would probably work better. Also rather than picking the hairs off of the screws, a lighter would probably work better and faster by burning the hairs off

I’m starting to think the “if she can do it” thing. I finally got hubby to help take the washer apart and I’ve got to be honest, neither one knows wth we’re doing! Lol…I need to look for the manual because I can’t reach anything from the rear of the unit even with the panel removed. All I can see, are the heating coils and don’t see a break there. Can I say that I’m 76, recovering from TKR from hell and drywalling and painting the laundry room and straightening hubby’s mess of collected bent and rusty nails and tools all over the basement all at the same time? I’m fed up of paying for shoddy work. Repairmen see elderly people and quickly decide to overcharge and do a shitty job. 😡 One plumber charged me a “Covid” fee two years ago!

Nice. Did it work? That one thing you were testing for continuity does not work like that. It will never beep. You have to check it's resistance aka hms. It's just another setting on that "multi" meter. You usually shoot for somewhere around 11k ohms to know it's good. Also, you want to disconnect the components before testing otherwise, you are potentially bypassing the bad part and completing the circuit with your meter depending on the wring. You were essentially testing those wires (that were still connected) and that is not what you want to do. Regardless, is it now working?

was that service manual actually for your model or was it for one with steam function. I have the same dry as you and went i followed the link to the instructions it was for a dryer with steam function.

Fix it and sell it and get an older/simpler model. Ask your local appliance what to buy. Kenmore is a good choice, but get a simple machine that you can rebuild cheap.
