Kenmore Dryer Not Heating but still Runs - How to Fix

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I show you how to fix a Kenmore dryer that is not heating, but still runs. Troubleshooting your dryer is the hardest part of the repair. This step by step tutorial will show you how to get your dryer heating again.
First thing we checked was the voltage to the dryer. After that we tested the resistance of the heater. Then the two thermostats that cycle the heat on and off. Finally I show you how to remove the heater if you tested yours and it was bad.
I will be doing more how to videos on this particular dryer, so be sure to subscribe to my channel to get those when they get posted!
Here I show you how to completely disassemble this Dryer:

all the other videos were for newer dryers. Thank God I found your video I never would have known about getting that screw out from the top of the machine to get my heating element out. I called around and it's $80 just for someone to come out. I'M a 55 year old woman who refuses to pay for something I i can do myself and with your help i did it myself. My kids once told me you can fix anything with you tube. So big thank you !

I have a dryer very similar to this and your video(s) helped me out immensely. I would never have been able to fix it without your help. After checking everything you suggested -- I also checked the Thermo cutoff -- located higher up on the box encasing the heating element -- that was the problem. I had already come across the "just drop the switch" video, and I did that, and sure enough the dryer started to heat up again! I had already cleaned away all the lint from everywhere, but still keep an eye out in case that wasn't the reason the cutoff switch tripped. So, in the end, the only cost was to buy the meter, I didn't even have to buy a part! Again, thank you for taking the time to make these video!

Thank you. This was the third video I watched on this subject (second one of yours). This old brown-top was the closest to my 200?, and I NEVER would have figured out how to open the top if you had not demonstrated. On my dryer, the screw for the clip that holds the top of the heater manifold is accessed from the drum side, so you definitely saved my day. All (4) thermal switch/fuse were good, but heating element had burned through, right at one of the insulators.

Thank you for this video. Your instructions saved the day. I wasn't able to figure out how to remove the heating element housing on my own. it was that top screw/clip. I found the break used a piece of wire to temporarily bridge the broken coil. It works. Using the multimeter was a real timesaver as well. Thank goodness I finally found a video with a dryer just like mine. I bought replacement parts and all the video for the high limit thermostat show wires connecting to the heating element. When I opened the back of my dryer the part was out of the hole and lying on the frame with two wire attached to it and two wires attached to the heating element, so the all the other videos were all very confusing. When you opened the back of your dryer it all finally made sense and I felt comfortable only using two of the tree place to reconnect!

I was ready to give up on this darlin' dryer, but she still works great. Thank you for showing videos of the "Brown Top Kenmore" dryer.

Excellent video and works on all dryers. Turned out my problem was a worn out power outlet. It actually gave good readings at the dryer because I moved the dryer. I checked the plug half-way-in and got intermittent voltage after jiggling the dryer heated. So, I replaced the outlet and the connection became solid, no jiggling.

Thanks to your video (and a few like it) we are drying again, instead of just tumbling clothes at room-temperature air. Our Kenmore differs from the one in your video, so I had to extemporize, to solve how it comes apart. Don’t know why anyone would design these things so that you have to disassemble the entire unit to get at the thermistor, but you do. An opportunity I suppose to vacuum the insides. The thermistor itself was only off by two units on my multimeter, but that was enough to prevent the heating coils from coming on. Luckily I was able to find an outlet willing to put parts in a bucket while I stood well back from the door. Thanks for saving me a couple hundred dollars on a service call (during a pandemic) or worse yet, a new dryer.
