Idol winners get locked into contracts where they have little control over the music they release and even their image. The demographics of Idol viewers doesn't accurately reflect the demographics of the general music listening population. As result, the people who watch Idol tend to have different tastes in music than what is considered popular more broadly. Added to that is the negative stigma associated with artists who compete on Idol. As there are a lot more people who don't watch Idol than those who do, and the music released by Idol contestants tends to pander to the Idol viewing public rather than the broader population, the success of Idol contestants ends up being quite limited compared to the success of artists who go the more traditional route of releasing music. There's a reason that only a handful of Idol contestants, out of hundreds (maybe thousands?) of extremely talented individuals, are household names and have truly successful careers.

@badfish420 that is not true at all. But it’s your story and you can tell it how you want. She should have either finished or came back. Her 29k subs would be much closer to 500k+. The music industry today is not the industry of even 4 years ago. It really only comes down to views, streams , brand awareness, popularity etc. they all correlate together and breed success.

I just discovered Kenedi today. Watching the performances, learning the story. I applaud your courage. Stay true to yourself. You'll get to wherever you are supposed to go.

This should have a million views. This song is so catchy. I keep coming back to listen.
