Everyone was waiting for Kendrick and Drake to go at it for almost a decade now after all the sneak dissing. All because Drake got in his feelings over Kendrick's Control verse calling him out by name as friendly competition. It's a general agreement that hip-hop is a sport, but Drake was never really for the culture like that. Kendrick was battle rapping on the streets since he was a teen and called him (and his ghost writers) out to take it to a stage. Seeing them really battle in person on a platform like Smack URL would definitely show who's pen is really like that to those who didn't already know by now. Certain connections that may seem like a stretch are actually common in battle rap arenas where they pull from layers upon layers of information. Daylyt, someone who also wrote for Drake (you're best work is a Lyt pack), is one of those guys you'd need an encyclopedia to catch his references if you weren't caught up.

Drake: You're short Kendrick: ゴゴゴゴゴゴゴゴゴゴゴゴゴゴゴゴゴゴゴゴ
I think it's also worth noting that in Euphoria and 6:16, Kendrick warned him that Drake doesn't want to throw down. Also, the allegations Drake made against Kendrick: Kendrick himself confessed to is in "Mister Morale" Kendrick mentions he hit his girl once and felt shame. Kendrick also says that he went to counseling/therapy for his generational trauma because his girl was going to leave him. He sacrificed his ego for his family. That's why in "Meet The Grahams" Dot tells Drake I warned you, go listen to Mister Morale again because you missed the point. In fact, it's all about wanting to be a better man, but you're so narcissistic, you missed the point" Outside of that Doug Free thing, even if it's true, it means Kendrick is truly Piccolo. He ain't the stepdad, his the dad who stepped up.
In one week we went from Drake going "haha size 7 shoes" to dudes getting shot in front of his house and people dancing in the club to him getting called a kid diddler, this guy set his life on nightmare difficulty (I know the shooting wasn't on Kendrick that was the XO murder beef but still)

As someone from Toronto, what they're talking about the Toronto accent sounds a lot more like the Scarborough accent. Shit like 'ey bombaclot' its all a faux jamacian accent that came from Scarborough's immigrant population being a lot from the tropics. Though to clarify, Scarborough is a (large) part of Toronto, so it'd be like specifying its more a Brooklyn accent. A 'Torontonian' accent would be very.. 'over enunciated trying to not have an accent'. Drake himself is a rich shitlord from one of Toronto's most affluent neighbourhoods, and he's always been a joke among my family, because my family knew his when he was younger and his early shit was about growing up like he was an impoverished and downtrodden poor boy. But like Pat said, everyone in Canada knew him as the wheelchair kid from Degrassi, the absolute peak of 'upper middle class prep'.

That was Kendrick's whole point and angle of attack on Drake. People tried to call K Dot racist but it was never about Drake not being black, it's his cultural upbringing that causes a disconnect between him and the greater black community. We saw this on full display throughout this battle.

@@SolidSnake240 Absolutely, and its kind of.. I suppose cathartic would be the right word- that he is being called out on the fact that the only connection he has with the greater black community is his skin tone, which he has used as effectively a marketing gimmick. There's issues of its own with how 'white' especially Canadian upperclass culture is, which meant he was kind of destined to be tokenized, but he took full advantage of it in a way that only played on/reinforced the sterotypes of blacks being all poor/from the hood.

Hey, fun fact to address Pat @ 17:16. That has actually happened before and funny enough, it involved J. Cole. About 12 or so years ago, a rapper by the name of Canibus (pronounced like cannabis) who was making waves in the late 90s, came out with a diss track towards J. Cole titled "J. Clone". His reasoning? Because J. Cole shouted him out and called him one of his favorite rappers. Canibus' viewpoint was "Well if you like me so much, why don't you call me for a feature?" In other words, he needed money because his career never quite recovered after he and LL Cool J had their beef in the late 90s. Not long after the record came out, he took to the internet to apologize on a webcam.

Hey all! First time watcher, the beef brought me here, an Inverse Pat. It should be noted, the agreed upon history has a conversation taking place between J. Cole and Schoolboy Q (another artist on Kendrick's former label, Top Dawg Ent.) during which Q tells J. that the "issues", Kendrick's personal problems with Drake, do not extend to J. and it's all love and peace if J. steps out.
