I have been a Kendrick fan since DAMN and went back and listened to a lot of his older stuff and I never ever knew there were hidden messages or meaning behind his songs until this rap battle. Kendrick drinks a cup of water and we wonder what it is behind him drinking water or the cup that he’s drinking out of it. It was a commentary on the descendants of African slaves, black Americans not claiming their birth rite and seeing patriotism, American values and the American flag as not belonging to them. On the contrary immigrants who become citizens probably see themselves as more American than a lot of black Americans whose lineage in this country predates its existence.

YOu missed the whole family thing. In Family Matters Drake said that Kendrick and his wife are not doing well and that he abused her. He also said his son was Dave Frees, his best friend who directed this. This shot in the Sepia was also supposed to be seen through a camera because Drake said he had a mole in his camp that told him all of this. Having her dance with the family was discounting all that crap Drake made up about his family.
