I don't understand what the uproar is about. She was obviously being facetious and saying that her son's perception of his situation is skewed by having grown up with everything he needed being easily accessible.

@@knavishlassie I have twenty-something nephews and it made me laugh because they have taken things for granted for so long and when they are finally responsible for themselves, their whole outlook changes. They are like newborn puppies when their eyes finally open. Lol. I do wish parents would have their privileged children do volunteer work that allows their children to see what it really means to be impoverished and to struggle with no support/safety net. It should start at a young age, so the kids can have some appreciation for the luxuries that experience in their lives. And also so they can consider using their wealth and influence to affect change for people who are struggling. But that is just the social worker in me having wishful thinking

What a bunch of nasty, mean-spirited people on here. She's just joking about things lots of parents experience. Obviously, this is a loving family or the children wouldn't be sticking to the parents so much. It's clear they love their children, but at the same time, living with three young people is exhausting as you grow older, and some peace and quiet would be nice. That's all. I applaud them for not just supporting their son. It's a good lesson. I'm sure if he was in danger of being evicted or starving they'd help out, but they want him to learn he has to work for the good things and doing without for some things is good for him.

There's no pleasing people. If they pay his expenses, they're coddling/spoiling him; if they make him pay his own way, it's disrespectful to those who are "actually poor"? She clearly was joking about him being in extreme poverty because this is the closest he'll likely ever be to it, as his parents are well off and he always lived well. This is his first taste of having to pay all his own expenses and she was using hyperbole to make it an entertaining story for TV.

My weekends were spent cleaning local bars after close. Yet for some reason I'm not taking offense at Kelly for the "extreme poverty" comment. You know why? Because to her son, it is extreme poverty. He's not used to having to work for it, he's not used to worrying where or when his money will be there, so to him this situation of being an insecure adult is extreme poverty. I've lived on 15k a year, I know poverty, but I'm not out here beating my chest acting like a few misguided words are ripping apart my world. GROW UP

None of you are acknowledging she and her husband are still married and they've raised kids who have avoided the pitfalls of most celebrity kids and seem to be decent, normal people. She earned her money and I'm sure struggled in the beginning. It seems she's willing to let her children do the same.
