Loved this guy in the UK 79-84. Was such a breath of fresh air compared to some of the corny old variety acts which were constantly regurgitated and fed to us . His name came to me and on searching his name finds he passed only 3-4 weeks ago . RIP Mr Monteith .

Unlike many so-called comedians this guy was actually funny without being obnoxious. His comedy inspired the type of "over-educated" singing comedy that I do today as an old man. RIP Kelly Monteith a true original funny man.

He was my friend for over 50 years. We shared so many moments together having lunch, dinner or just plain hanging out. We started out in comedy around the same time and became friends almost the moment we met. I loved his style and his approach to stand up but most of all I loved his friendship. When we worked the same cities we would always seek each other out after the shows and when we came back to LA we also got together as much as possible. In 1975 there was a club in Santa Monica, Ca that Kelly was a regular at and I wanted to work there and Kelly convinced the owner to give me a chance. I worked there off and on for a few years and loved the place. A couple of years later I was the first American comedian to do a talk show in London called the Des O'Connor show and I recommended Kelly to Des and the producers. Kelly went over there and did so well he ended up getting a series on the BBC for 5 years. I think of him often and the fun times we had. Miss you my long time friend. Rest in Peace.

Just had to comment on this, I'm thinking of Kelly at work today and all the laughs he gave me when I was young. I would watch his show every week with my mum. I really loved that guy. RIP, my TV friend.

Rest in Peace Kelly. One of the very very few comedians that with such style and ease could translate American humour to a British audience. What a lovely tribute this is - and a huge thanks to the Anglophile channel for bringing Kelly back in to our lives in these recent years. This is such sad news - and my heart goes out to his family and all his close friends that loved him dearly. He may now be gone - but he has left a terrific body of work to keep all laughing in to the future. x

What a lovely tribute. We used to love watching his monologue/sketch show combo on BBC Two over the years. Weird to think of him at 80, when he always seemed so eternally youthful. My mum used to fancy him. And secretly, so did I! RIP Kelly Monteith. You were funny and sweet in equal measure x😢
