How did that one guy’s greathelm keep coming off? It has a padded liner inside and a chinstrap? Was he not utilizing the chin strap??

What kind of shield are you wielding? Its the first I have seen one like that! Also what techniques are you using? Do you study any particular works or master? Are people at these events usually trained? It seemed kinda cumbersome looking, but I haven't fought much (and never with this kind of equipment) so I wouldn't know.

That shield is a punch shield, so named because it is good for punching. As far as I know it was not used on the battlefield but may well have been used in tournaments and duels, although the ones used in duels typically had sharp points to stab with. From what I have seen it doesn't much look like most of these guys study any combat manuscripts, mostly because those utilize a lot of deadly techniques like halfswording, murder stroke, a LOT of thrusting attacks etc. that are banned in this sport. I have looked at the ACS rules and thrusts are completely banned. However I have not tried the sport nor spoken to anyone who has so I am just guessing that they are not trained in actual combat techniques. Which is fine, because they aren't trying to simulate real combat like HEMA does. They are practicing "buhurt" which is a form of tournament fighting, which obviously did not and should not involve deadly techniques.
