    Hi Keith, Great video, learned a lot. I am planning to cast the root structure of the shrub Artemisia for my research work. It looks like it will be very hard to cast a root with a lot of moisture in it. I might oven dry it for that purpose. What other things you suggest I should be aware of while casting living roots? I will probably use slow set 7 resin for casting and PLAT 10 to create mold.

    Thanks for the great video, do you have one on stabilizing wood, and cleaning it up after you stabilize?

    Great video. Couple of questions though. I have a kitchen scale but weighing various new coins the weight seems to be off by half a gram. Is that going to be an issue? Also I have a 5 inch diameter length of what I believe is ash and also some black walnut, not burls that have cracked a bit and I wanted to fill them with a cast would I have to stabilize them? Thanks, new to epoxy.

    Great video. What is the shelf life of Alumilite products? In this economy and with the supply chain issues, when I place an order I like to order more than I need immediately but only if the product won't expire prior to me using it. Thanks.

    Great tips, thanks! So are the pieces hot out of the oven when you cast? I thought the heat would cause the alumilite to set prematurely.

    They cool naturally pretty quickly. You wouldn't want to put them in fresh out of the pot.

    IN your video at frame 1:45 you made and show little a pine cone or little box or jar with lid. Can you tell me how thick the resin wall is for that? Is their a minimum thick before an item like that would be breakable? I need to make something similar that is 3.5 inch by 3.5 inches, all clear, and dont know how thin the walls can be made. Thanks

    What kind of temperature control did you use when you were casting your large Grasshopper piece?

  • @AlumiliteCorporation

    @AlumiliteCorporation

    It's different for everyone - typically you want to check the technical data sheet for the product you're using and find the recommended temperature to work in. Once you've got that information, you just need to work/modify your space to have that consistent temp!

    Urethane resin is super sensitive to any sort of moisture - even if the wood feels dry to the touch, it could still have a small amount of moisture in it. For this reason, we recommend taking the extra steps to dry it!

    You made a lot of great points however; this video is mostly aimed at the professional caster/businessman. Yes, some points do cross over to the hobby caster. For the hobby caster the easiest way to prevent moisture when casting is to COMPLETELY SEAL the wood in lacquer. Please do a hobby cast video!!!!!!

    Hello Teresa - depends on which resin but yes it will stick to wood in general. The big things will be making sure the wood is prepped and there is no moisture if you are using Alumilite Clear Slow - less worrisome if you’re using one of our epoxies like our Amazing Clear Cast - let us know if you have more questions :)
