    Most whitepapers seem to be written by space aliens, not written in an empathic or human way for beginners or newbie researchers to understand well. Mostly it seems papers for experts written by experts.

    Great video you break it down nicely & make it not quite so intimidating!! I don't know if I missed some information somewhere in this or not, but I'm wondering about heat. UVis right out in the open & easy to understand but sis I miss info on which ones are best in f heat might be a factor? Not like super hot...I'm talking coasters for drinks. I have heard so many artists complain that even after weeks of curing they have issues with stickiness if a hot cup of coffee is places on a coaster! I understand than some are probably inexperienced folks that maybe didn't mix properly, but not all of them. I have a commission to do for kitchen tile & I want to make sure there aren't any heat issues. Which do you recommend for heat protection on tile?!?

    Here's the thing. I want to make one single small project, and according to this video I would need AQC and ADP for that (seal the wood, then pour ~1,5cm). Is it possible to seal the wood with ADP and just wait a little longer? Or do you have to use AQC for that? Because having 1 type of epoxy lying around is one thing, but I don't want to have an entire shelf full of materials for this one project By the way, AMAZING video!!

    Thanks for this! So for casting, I'm trying to understand how to interpret the "depth" numbers. Does this mean epoxies (specifically Deep Pour) shouldn't be used in molds with over a 2" vertical depth? Similarly, 3/8" seems like a really shallow mold. I've been using polyurethanes up till now, and I'm thinking about expanding into epoxies, but these numbers seem kind of limiting. How easy is it to get around these limits with successive layers? Thanks!

  • @AlumiliteCorporation

    @AlumiliteCorporation

    3 жыл бұрын

    Great questions Brian! Unfortunately depth limitations on their own are very difficult to say "this is the exact way to do this." What really matters is the mass of the pour - so for something like a river table or cutting board with Deep Pour, you'll never want to pour over 2 inches or you'll get a large exothermic reaction. Same with ACC and 3/8inch. Filling something like a coaster mold will be no problem with epoxy. Larger molds do work better with Deep Pour, etc. Happy to help clarify further if needed!

    Thank you so much for this video. I am using this product for my paintings and have run into an issue with the last few paintings I have poured. The epoxy is not covering the entire painting. The first time I thought maybe the painting wasn't level or I didn't mix enough epoxy for the size of the painting or that maybe the weight of the epoleveledxy was sagging into the middle of the canvas. This time I leveled , placed cardboard under to make it more rigid and used an epoxy calculator. The pour came out better but I am still finding that in a few places the epoxy seems to be pulling off the edges of the painting. I find that I have to pour twice which is too expensive. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong?

    thanks for the information and clearing up the maze. Quick question. I am building a bar top using 3/8 inch thick “disks” of cedar about 1-1/2 inches in diameter. They will go on the bar top and the epoxy will be used to fill the voids between disks and ultimately cover the entire table top. Can i 1st apply a quick coat as the bottom layer with color, place the disks in the quick coat to “adhere” let try and then apply my deep pour to the level of the surface, about 1/2 inch thick? After curing i would then pour a table top over the entire project? Wil that work?

    I love your info. Yet I do have a question on a project of mine. I rescued a 13 feet reflection pool, with 4 outer dolphins which stray water to the center of the pool, which has a 3 tier fountain topped with 2 entwined dolphins that spray out to the pool. (Now if that isn't confusing enough) it is constructed out of cement. After taking it down moving it and repairing some missing fins... it's now time to set it back up and turning it into a fish fountain, but I want it more colorful and and sealed to help prevent any additional damage. Shesh, glad that's explained. Much QUESTION IS- which epoxy coating would you recommend? I was think the 2nd one the UV coating, over a moisture barrier/seal.

    The difficulty with this project is that it will be outside so you need to be careful of yellowing. Our ACC+ would be the best option in this case since it will take the longest to yellow out of all our epoxies - but it will still yellow eventually. If you plan on using colors (not white) then the yellowing shouldn't be noticeable and you should be good to go!

  • @lizvid2511

    Do you think that the acc+will work ok for coating poly clay jewelry?. I got your 16 oz kit and I cant wait to try it. I can let stuff sit, but the costs will be thin. Still think it's good? I wanted the extra uv protection to prevent yellowing from wear

    Another attribute that you should consider is high temp resistance. Epoxies are available that resist heat up to 500 degrees, and are used for countertops (put a hot pan on it) or for coasters and/or trivets. Most epoxies are only good up to about 140 degrees F., before they start to soften.

That’s much taller than 2”. So is ADP the one I’d use for a 5” chicken statue? Thanks in anticipation. Understanding how temperature of the resin affects it’s use would be a great help too. • @AlumiliteCorporation

    @AlumiliteCorporation

    2 жыл бұрын

    Absolutely! With urethane resins you can typically pour deeper but you need to use a pressure pot to "crush" out the bubbles (the resin cures too quickly for the bubbles to release naturally on their own and they can get caught in the middle of your piece). Our Amazing Deep Pour epoxy is a great alternative to these urethane resins. It has a much longer cure schedule which allows air bubbles to release naturally, meaning you don't need to use a pressure pot in order to have a crystal clear piece! We have a video on pressure pots and vacuum chambers that explains the actual devices much more clearly!

    Great question! For all of the projects you mentioned, our Amazing Clear Cast will work really well (Amazing Clear Cast Plus if you are extra concerned about UV rays)! But for the really small projects, like jewelry and keychains, our Amazing Quick Coat will save you loads of time and work just as well!

    I do wear PPE when mixing/applying epoxy, but I will pop in at intervals to make sure nothing has moved/fallen. The last time I used Aluminite the smell was powerful. What degree of odor can I expect from Quick Cure?

  • @AlumiliteCorporation

    @AlumiliteCorporation

    3 жыл бұрын

    It all depends on how chemically sensitive you are to the formula. If you notice a smell with one of our products you'll most likely notice a smell with the others - at what strength is impossible to tell. If it helps, we have heard from other makers that Amazing Quick Coat isn't as strong as Amazing Clear Cast.

    Great video! I just discovered your channel. How strong is the epoxy? I want to make a mold of a face (the back is flat). I did it previously with plaster and put hooks in it so when it dried I could hang it on the wall. The negative can hold 2.5 gallons of water (I had to mix almost a full 25lbs of plaster). I want to make another cast, but with clear epoxy. If I put the hooks in the back as I apply layers and the hooks stick, will the epoxy be strong enough to support its own weight when I hang it on a wall? Having never worked with epoxy I also have no idea if its heavier or lighter than plaster.

  • @AlumiliteCorporation

    @AlumiliteCorporation

    As long as the epoxy is fully cured before you attempt to hang the piece, it should be able to hold its own weight. At the very least, the hooks won't "fall out" of the resin.

    If you're talking about "fish in a pond" for example, you should do a pour up to the level where you want the fish - let the epoxy tac up a little and place the fish on top, let that completely cure and then add more resin on top to finish your pond. (Make sure your colors are the same/super similar for the resin on this because you don't want to see where the two layers meet

    These are great questions!! This project sounds like it would be great for some of our urethane resins - depending on the overall look you want and the number of details, Alumilite White would work for the car body. For the rubber tires, a product from our Flex line would work well - the one you choose just depends on how flexible you want it.
