Peter, this is one of the best-sounding Keith Jarrett Trio recordings I've ever heard !!! The mix and the balance is perfect for once. 'Not sure if Manfred Eicher was involved, but I've never been a fan of his "legendary" record producing. Keith's pianos were often out of tune, and Jack's cymbals were always overriding the high treble notes of the piano, while Gary's bass sounded tubby and amorphous on many recordings. In this recording, the piano is mixed well, very much in tune, and the drums are present, not overwhelming. Gary's bass is well-defined with great tone. I know that none of these three changed their instruments for this recording, so this proves that it is the recording engineering, mic placement, and mixing that has made the difference. Despite the fact that this was recorded live, in a fairly large hall, there is no ambient echo coming to the microphones, and the listener hears this trio as if he was siting in the front row of an intimate night club. Thanks for posting this great recording !!

totally understand your reasoning, however the light and shade is also very evident in marcin walewski trio..... tremendous touch and compositional thought on show................... just wish jarrett would tone the vocalising down a bit it can be intrusive

I don't mind his vocalizing, it's part of what Keith Jarrett is. makes the whole experience even deeper, Stephe Owen ;) every single thing he does is magic.
