Keir Starmer Under Pressure to Increase Spending on Defence

The Prime Minister Keir Starmer is under pressure to increase spending on defence following a hospital bombing in Kiev yesterday. Britain should train a 'citizen army' ready to fight a war in the future, the head of the Army has said. General Sir Patrick Sanders warned that an increase in reserve forces alone 'would not be enough'.

Yesterday, I watched an interview with one of the organizers of the protests in Barcelona. The Spanish woman said tourism has become a bad thing because Airbnb's are numerous and that has caused local rents and housing affordability to skyrocket. Housing, for locals, is out of reach. That is a major concern for the local Catalonians.

Could it be safe to say that any push for war would not be supported by the population who’d consider themselves as being used as foot soldiers pawns and fodder to fight a futile war? Who is to say that Russia will be an aggressor should it recapture the Ukraine into the Soviet Union. Has not it been the Russian stance from the get go that it doesn’t require aggressions from having foreign war mongering and foreign bases installed into the region. Isn’t that what all of this is about. How many times can Britain fit into Russia for Britain to fear Russia since Second World War. So sad how power hungry individuals have made the world an unsafe environment for all living things given the potential for the use of frying weapons, equally with having unstable people at the helm it is more like likely than not we all shall fry…isn’t that the reality.

Donalt Trump threatening to not defend countries that don't contribute actually improves defense. Because as a result of this threat the countries started to invest in defense.

He should hike his demand to 3% or even more. What else will make these countries take their responsibilities seriously? Why are they feeling entitled to US help that has been spending 3% of its GDP all this time while others were spending their money on russian gas?

The best way to 'help' Ukraine would be to get Zelenski, whose term as President has now expired but has been extended indefinitely until the war is over using emergency powers, to hold an election to see if the Ukrainian population want to continue with this forever war or sit down at the negotiating table and bring it to an end. Without minimising any suffering in Ukraine, why is the same sympathy not shown to the inhabitants of Gaza where Israel has destroyed ALL the hospitals? It is not mentioned in this video that the Russian ambassador to the UN has offered a different version of events. Why when Israel destroy a hospital is their explanation so readily accepted but when Russia offers an alternative explanation it is ignored. It appears that everything Russia and Hamas say are lies but everything Israel and Ukraine says is the gospel truth.

look at the UK's debt to GDP, a smart person would bring down that debt asap. The government paid over 100 billion to service it debt. I'm not sure the British people really understand how bad this is. Labour talks about investments but i think it would be smarter to let the markets figure it out and for the government to stop gambling with the peoples taxes. Pay of as much debt as possible so that we dont lose over 100 billion a year. sure its nice to invest, its fun and all but its still a gamble. Government own green energy is the only investment that worth investing in. Also cut back the costs of processing illegal immigrants should be a priority. I support Ukraine, however it seems that Ukraine hasn't even mobilized yet. they have an invader and simply sit back and use expensive weapons supplied by the west without pressing forward with big enough number. This sort of war will continue to cost the west billions. I think the UK should get out of trying to be a big player on the world stage and only worry about its back yard. is anyone trying to invade the UK? nope. Time to stay out of Ukraine and definitely stop letting the US tell you what to do. if you want to solve the main problems of the UK then you need to work on local problems only. Im pretty sure nothing will change with Labour. it will be the same excuses as the others. if they dont put restriction so that the new builds are for first time buyers then you know that they have no plan to solve the housing issue. so far none of the parties have put restrictions on housing.. The housing project he is talking about is to help the global investors make more money. i have no faith is the UK as i see the greed and lies of all these simple people that are in power.

Yes, defence spending does matter and does make a difference to national defence and more importantly our donations to ukraine which also matter, holding back russia means everything to britain because when russia is done with ukraine we are next, we need to be prepared for this scenario, putin is proving how much of a madman he is right now and wont hesitate to target NATO next, lets tackle this now while we still can a beat russia.

Delusional nonsense. You're living in the past Henry. The UK isn't a world power anymore, just a broke windy country off the coast of France. The country's broke, there's no money for military toys.
