    My very first betta lived the longest, it's because he was in a bowl. I was new to owning a fish in general. My very first fish was a betta that I can never forget. I highly suggest getting the largest bowl for a betta and creating a good eco system with natural aqua plants, sand and soil. As a first-time betta owner, I probably made a lot of mistakes, but my first betta still survived so long. I'm talking about 4+ years when he was already a grown betta. He was already 2 years old when I got him. Nowadays, there's too much advertising going on to scare people into buying more latest products. Call me old fashioned, but I do my research. I have seen where fishermen in Thailand catch bettas from. They catch bettas from murky water, with minimal light and normal temperature surrounded by weeds. Bowls are fine, as long as it's a big one. As long as there is a good eco system in the bowl, you don't really need anything else.

    Finally a video that explains more. My family got a betta without properly thinking it through and doing research im just seeing everwhere saying you need 5+ gallons. We have nowhere to put the tank

    I thought the only reason people are against bowls is because most of the time they're just too small. Interesting.

    New subscriber here, I fell in love with the Bio Orbs and wanted a Betta fish. I bought the 8 gallon "bowl" it has an underground filter I have suction cup heater, substrate and live plants. I also have a very happy Betta fish who sits on my desk and distracts me from work. He does share his bowl with some snails because cleaning the curved sides of the bowls proved to be a bit more difficult than I anticipated.

    We have a bowl that has 30 litre capacity (over 6 UK gallons). We have run this successfully with coldwater fish that do not worrry about low temperatures around 17 degrees C. It is not impossible to add a filter or a heater. A small filter for 20-40 litre tank fits in perfectly, as does a small 50 watt heater. Our tank is well stocked with plants and is running really well. From my experience, a good size bowl is no harder to maintain than a standard aquarium. I have always found that fish forums are dead against bowls, I guess they are fixated on fairground goldfish bowls that hold a few litres!🐠

    I want to get another fish tank don't know if a 1000×400×400 will be to big for my betta fish tank. I've done my research for what other fish I can put in it. Please let me know what you think about the size if tank. I'm also going to put plenty of live plants in it and I'm in no hurry for setting it up.

    I temporarily keep my betta in 2.5 gallon bowl (she’s very tiny - not bigger than an inch) and she seems to be doing just fine. It isn’t ideal set up for her, so I won’t keep her there permanently (the bowl was initially planned for shrimp), but it is possible. I’m not sure how fish feel about the distorted view tho. It doesn’t seem to bother her but it’s not like she can tell me lol

    i think 2.5 gallons as a minimum is definitely possible. just cant recommend it from my side given the higher risk of water parameter fluctuation. but glad it’s just a temporary setup for her!

    Hey can you say why betta fish don't flare in a fish bowl?

  • @Pharmaquatics

    @Pharmaquatics

    2 жыл бұрын

    flaring’s an instinctual behavior that occurs regardless of where the betta is located… bowl, cup, tank, etc.

    Hi, sorry I have a question that is unrelated to this video but I don’t know who to ask about. I have been owning my betta fish since last Christmas, when I get him his fins looks very good. I put him into a 2.5 gallon tank with 3 pandacory, 3 dwarf sucker catfish and a black King Kong snail. I do a 30% water changes every 3 days. My tank is set up at 26 degree Celsius. My betta fish looks fine in the past 3 weeks, but this week, I have noticed he lost a bit of weight and his fin started shirking a little, like instead of a perfect half moon shape, it goes (slightly) zip zap around the edge and it seems like it’s getting worse every day when I have a look at him. (but to this point is still not too bad) . Do you know why is that happening or is there anything I can do to try to treat him?

  • @Pharmaquatics

    @Pharmaquatics

    2 жыл бұрын

    i would say your tank is very overstocked for a 2.5 gallon. parameters might be okay if you're doing water changes every 3 days (but still questionable, what are your water levels?) but having that many fish packed into a 2.5 gallon can be very stressful all its inhabitants. upgrade the tank or just keep the betta is my recommendation

  • @shaneadmusson7740

    I have a feeling that the majority of people who choose the bowl option are beginners and therefore it is a common issue to pick one that is well under five gallons. This is probably why the blog referenced here took the angle they did. Sort of a form of damage control maybe although somewhat less than correct.
