Keeper Dropshot Halibut From Shore [Catch and Cook]

Saw perfect conditions to target halibut from the beach. Calm surf, warm water, clear skies. Went out and found a keeper.

Correct me if im wrong but you measured the fish wrong

You are allowed to measure from the end of the closed mouth to the tip of the tail. Most people think that the longest point on the halibut is the middle of the tail, since it sticks out, but it is best to measure to the top of a tail, just like you would on a striper or perch. I asked a game warden about this and the said it was totally fine.

When you measure diagonally, you get a longer measurement. Simple math, look at a triangle the diagonal of the triangle will be longer than the straight portion. Also best way to measure is straight down the middle and line the end of the tape up with the tip of the tail(while still dead straight down the middle).

Gr8 job young man!! U r repping ur generation extremely well! Excellent demo of tying n using dropshot rig! The cooked fish looked awesome! I'm gonna try that dab of tomato in my lemon butter sauce! I hit the liken sub button. Every state is a lil diff, but I would def check out what is the exact legal way to measure each fish in ur state. In my state the tape measure has to be lying on a flat surface under the fish. The tip of mouth touches 0 n measures str8 line down the middle of fish to tip of the tail

sunset beach is a good spot for striper later in the season. metals and SP minnows are good but go with a pencil popper if its calm enough. For halibut you need to find the good spots for yourself (people don´t like it if I give them away) but super calm water is key
