Lol, minute 8:52 “about halfway through fitting the lower radiator hose you’ll get a cramp and totally regret replacing the hoses on your XJS.” Truth. I have been fighting the lower rad hose for 2 hours and am nearly out of French.

I have to say that I wouldn’t have dared tackling this job without your videos so thank you. The hardest part so far has been fitting the new lower radiator hose which I managed to just push on from underneath but clearance is so so tight and it’s quite the challenge!

I have bought my first V12 Jaguar. It’s a pre HE 1977 XJ-S. I’m not in a hurry to get it back on the road. I will pick away at it over a number of years and I’m looking forward to it. your videos are going to be a tremendous resource. Thanks for taking the time to develop this series for our benefit.

Just a small suggestion, when your slacking off the jubilee clips, especially the ones on the bottom hose, use a long flexible shaft to mount the socket; it was the only way I could get at mine. I did wonder if you would use Vaseline, washing up liquid works just as well (but not to much!). I also found that taking the bleed screw out of the top of the rad saved much faffing around even on my HE. Glad to see that you're having fun weather-wise as well; pretty grim here on the Wirral as well. It should clear up for you sometime next week...

Some of the clips that may have been on there since they built the car can be a pain I get off. The weather has really turned to fall right away here. I hope we’ll get some better weather again soon

Thank you for another useful video! I am not sure if it was in the workshop manual or on jag lovers but I found one more tip. It said to lift the front of the vehicle prior to pouring coolant in order to facilitate air bubbles moving forward.

That is a great tip but I’ve mostly found it necessary on the pre-HE. The HE is a lot better at getting any air out by itself. Thanks for watching 🙂

Adam this is one of your best informative video on V12 cooling system. Something to check with a light before buying any Jag. V12. What supplier has a complete kit like yours that is available ? It would be best a V12 owner has a spare set. Like I said what supplier has a complete kit ? Thanks.

You have the wrong cap for the cross over pipe. It should be a flat cap (same as early XJ6) and not a pressure cap. Please dont use Vaseline as this is a petroleum based lubricant and not meant for water hoses. Use rubber grease or silicon spray, please. If this was my car, I would have replaced both thermostats at the same time. If you want a better alternative to coolant additives, use Evans Waterless Coolant. A vastly superior alternative. Nice video Adam. keep them coming.

  • @paulkirkland1535

My thoughts exactly. The thermostats should be replaced as well when doing a flush. Also it can be difficult to completely bleed or burp the V12 cooling system. When I'm doing one, it's better to do it 2 to 3 times just to make sure to get all the air out. Definitely DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES use any type of radiator or block sealer in the cooling system. I don't know why the owners manual gives someone that instruction. The bloke who wrote the manual needs a spanking. A gr8 God bless day to you and good job Adam.

Jaguar changed to a pressure cap somewhere along the way when they realized it made no difference. The design of the pipe seals the cap anyway, so even a pressure cap functions like a flat cap. But changing to a pressure cap had the advantage of eliminating the risk that someone would mix up the caps and put the flat cap on the expansion tank. I got this from Kirby’s XJS book.

Thank you so much for the helpful demo of changing the coolant hoses as well as filling up the new coolant. I have a question, after you filled up the crossover to the top, you said next to fill up the expansion tank. When I did the same thing on my 1988 XJS V12,the coolant over flooded from the expansion tank when the coolant was filled up to top through crossover, I think simply the opening on crossover is higher than the opening on the expansion tank. Do you know what I did wrong? or something is wrong in the coolant system? I changed all the long coolant pipes but not those short ones, should I replace them too? Please advise, thank you!

Hello Adam, from Vienna. I have a 6.0 xjrs facelift, and want to Do the same Procedure like you. Now my question, i see in your Video, that you use 2 caps with springs, for the cooling System, but i think, that the cap on the engine bay should be one, without a spring...the cap on the expansion tank has a cap with spring... What is your opinion... Thanks mike
