Keep frame clean when changing oil!

Ойын-сауық

For some reason Mazda designed the car with the oil filter directly above frame members making it difficult to change the filter without spilling oil all over the frame. In this video, I show a simple trick to keep your NC1 Miata frame clean when changing it.

Thanks for watching and the comments! I had someone suggest removing the cross member when changing the oil. I haven't tried that yet but probably another good way to do it. Either way, I think you may have already but if not please consider Subscribing and hitting the like button. I would really appreciate it.

Really like your video, man. Just did my mother in law’s NC2 oil change this past weekend, getting oil everywhere. Haha. Never again!!! 🍻

That's great. I wander if Mazda has an OEM funnel they use at their dealerships.

I remove the cross member, only 6 bolts and it gives great access and no mess! maybe give it a go on the next one and see.😊

Hey there. Thanks for watching and the comments. For some reason I never even considered that. I guess I felt it was structrual and the frame might move if I did that. I'll definitely check that out on the next oil change. Thanks for the tip. Either way I think you may have already but if not please consider subscribing. I'd really appreciate it.

@@NINEPOINTFIVEPROJECTS Once you do it I bet that will be the method you use I wont struggle with that mess being so restricted for access I do it that way on both my NCs now, I also use a 12v electric oil pump for the gearbox and diff oils plenty on e bay etc subscribed!

You ever had any driveshaft problems? I have a vibration and suspect the drive shaft. I have 25000 miles on my 08.

@@NINEPOINTFIVEPROJECTS I have a 2012 PRHT with 7000 miles and a 2012 softop with 9000 miles on it both bought in 2021 and both manual 6 speed and 5 speed respectively, What leads you to think it is the drive shaft, has it been removed? you could check for signs of missing balance weights if fitted. Or road wheels out of balance, Tyre flat spots if the car has been standing a while are other possibilities. Am in UK🙂

I’m usually overly sensitive to vibrations in cars and it could likely be the tires. When I got the car a year and half ago with 8400 miles it had the original tires. I did have them replaced because of the age not wear. These tires do flat spot if the car sits for very long probably because inflation specs are pretty low. I was just thinking that the U joints may be dry from age, not wear also. I haven’t checked to see if there are grease fittings on it or not. I did see a post somewhere where the driveshafts rarely give problems.
