Keene Versus Infinity Jet

We tested a standard Keene 4" power jet up against a infinity / couple jet manufactured decades ago "Gold Divers". This is the first time I had worked with this jet in over 40 years. I have been receiving a lot of inquires on the infinity jet as of lately, since I had the tank and pump set up this would be a good time to test. This is a video showing how we tested and steps and issues we went though. This allows you to go through the learning curve with us.

Thanks for showing this old couple jet and giving it a test! I have found similar results while testing some 3D printed jets against each other. The ideal suction comes from properly matching the jet to the pump, as you have clearly done.

Great video, totally missed this as i'm quite interested in this type of dredge. But one thing i learned while doing research on them is that they don't like a pressure pump, they need volume. But as you said they are more effective but also more problematic as they are sensitive.

I tried 3 different settings on the jet infinity jet. I ran it at 30 psi, 32 psi, 35 and 40 psi and the performance was best at 35psi. Keep in mind the higher the pressure the lower the volume passing through the jet. Lower pressure means higher volume.

We are always learning new things every day. We have tried changing pitch many times and makes a very little to no difference.

    The engine is a GX270 roughly a 8.5 hp.

I am wondering if off setting the water inductuctor a couple degrees , rather than shooting the water down the center of the jet, would be more efficient. The idea is to create a vortex type of flow within the Keene jet. Anyways I really enjoyed this video.

So the guys running 12 inch and bigger venturies use the older infinity jet? Or can a power jet be built for something 12 inch and bigger?

@@KeeneEngInc *You could do the same thing by just shooting a "Crescent Moon" shaped flow from your jet and it would never suffer from "dirt jams".*

Couple jet is the most efficient design IF the geometry is made the right way. It's all about the angles and the gaps. High precision is needed. The one you have (gold divers) is not best in terms of geometry but if you adjust the gap between the cones and make sure it's perfectly centered it will produce better results than power jet. Or worst case the same suction with less rpm on the pump. (Higher efficiency) You can try adjustment for more volume instead of pressure. Also you have to install proper (multi screen) filtration system on the suction end of the pump to prevent plug ups. You should see what they use for larger scale dredging! ONLY couple jet for large scale underwater excavation dredging for construction. They build artificial islands and harbours with these things. Foundations for bridges, pipe lines ....And many more. They are moving incredible amounts of material with 8, 10 and even 12 inch dredges under water. Check this for ideas www.ashtead-technology.com/equipment/dredging/

Exactly, I am building both infinity and jets and infinity outperforms jets any time if adjusted properly
