Keene KT10DC Trommel Set Up

We are excited to present our New KT10 Trommel. The KT10 Trommel is ideal for harsh conditions such as high clay content, heavily rooted material and compacted gravels. The material is fed and washed in the feed hopper that flows into the classifier drum. The drum with the spray bars and breaker bars thoroughly washes and classifies the material creating the ideal conditions for optimum fine gold recovery in any sluice. The KT10 is capable of moving serious amounts of material up to one yard per hour and capable to keeping a one or two man crew busy.

Looks awesome. Keene always makes great, lightweight portable equipment built to last. I would love it if Keene made a rocker box!

I have run the Trommel dozens of times and I always check my tailings and I am getting outstanding recovery. Dialing the sluice box in does take a little practice. When using the water motor it is a little easier since you have an abundance of water and this makes it easy to maintain the right slurry in the sluice box. The drum and hopper can move a lot of material even over a yard per hour. The 12-volt trommel does require a little more adjustment and paying attention to the slurry feeding the sluice box. I was up north last October and ran into a guy running the DC system and he set everything up about 4 to 5 feet above the water. The flow into the sluice was cut down by almost 50% and the drum was feed a very dense slurry into the sluice box and he was see some losses as well. So I helped relocate a few closer to water surface and the machine came alive. Also you have to make sure you have enough pitch on the sluice box to make the riffle do there job. In normal conditions you should clean the box out at least twice a day. I was running in our secret spot that is extremely heavy with black sand and garnet sand we had to clean our box out every hour or less. Next time we take one out to the secrete spot we will take a extended sluice box so we can extend our time in-between clean ups.

ReallylLike how that trommel is coming together! Its drywashing season in many places in Central and Southern arizona, but we definitely have the dredging and highbanking season as well!

You know what is funny I have always been a big high banker advocate. I have truly enjoyed using the trommel over a high banker it is simply more fun. It really washes the gravels and clays like I have never seen before. Plus I never get wet from the spray bar not a big deal unless you mine through the winter.

John you have a lot of good questions. The speed of material traveling through the drum is determined by the amount of drop or angle, plus you have the breaker bars that start and stop every 3" or so. In my use and several customer the machine excels in clay environment. Since the Trammel does such a good job on cleaning and classifying the recovery is amazing. We use a a52s Sluice with a variety of riffles. Expanded metal over green ribbed carpet that excels in small flat flaky gold. Then miracle matting for flour gold the carpet expanded metal with a small riffle works great in all environments. I have used it several times and checked my tailing and at most found a few pieces of fly poop in the tailing. In the main box I had over gram of gold. If you are running a different sluice it should do a good job, again when you feed a sluice with perfectly classified material with a controlled flow of water the box should perform well. for your other questions email me at mark@keeneeng.com or pat@keeneeng.com

I have this setup and used it multiple times. My main concern is the length of the Trommel, it's too short and I lost many fines into the tailings. I also fed this at a very slow rate.

So how does it handle heavy clay material? I noticed that there is no inner ring to slow down the feed rate to thoroughly wash the rocks and dissolve the clay. Do you use it to test an area? Here on the north eastern Klamath Mountain area, Yreka, CA, there is fine gold to very thin flakes with an occasional picker or nugget. How would you set up your trommel and sluice? Also, I got one of your 6" sluices at a yard sale, no legs attached. Given the type of gold we have here, how would you set up this sluice (make changes to riffles and carpet/moss to test an area where there is fine gold and what degree of slope would you use? Interestingly enough I got this and a Jobe 10" sluice and 3" pump from people who just didn't understand how to use them nor asked questions either. In fact, the Jobe sluice (which had legs) and cheap Chinese 2" pump were never actually used. And your 6" sluice looked like it was barelyeven used. Can I get legs for your 6" sluice? He didn't have the owners booklet for that 6" sluice. How can I get a copy for it? Do you have the carpet or miner's moss for fine gold for it?

Is this type of setup now banned in the state of California? I thought that motorized or electric powered sluice boxes were banned. Perhaps this is only on national forest land and not private property? I am not from California but I've done a fair amount of mining in the Carolinas, and I also own a trommel(from different brand), rock crushers, and an A 52S that I've taken to Uwharrie National Forest. The rules are only stream sluice and manual equipment with no motorized equipment in National Forests, but on private property the laws are mostly do what you want up to a 6" Suction Dredge. My cousin is having a wedding in California this year, and her in laws own an almond farm with several streams in San Louis Obispo. I'm considering doing some mining out there and I'm wanting to be up to date on the laws on what I can and cannot do. I know that dredging is out. I'm considering some of the water fed options on some of the sluice boxes, even though the A52S is awesome and you can technically shovel directly into it, I am a strong guy and find that my ability to shovel often outproduces my small machinery- leaving my sluice boxes full of rocks and requiring frequent cleanouts which also causes gold loss so I really need to use a feed hopper or trommel when stream sluicing if I'm not high banking. I love your company and videos. Heavy pans!

it all depends on the water flow. Fast water run with roughly a .50 drop per foot slow water roughly 1" per foot drop
