Part of my job as an aircraft hydraulic systems specialist in the 328th Bombardment Squadron, 93rd Bombardment Wing, out of Castle AFB, was maintaining the In Flight Refueling system of the B52G.

Why is still not automated refueling aircraft? I think there should be two modes: manual and automatic.

Because it's a KC-135 and it's over 50 years old

It's a valid question and I suppose people have thought about it and we don't have the tech or the money to implement it with a sufficient safety margin.

How many gallons or pounds per second can you fill the B52 and Hou many pounds or gallons do you deliver to the plane.

@@jrftworth So how long would a typical refueling take? I suppose they don't let themselves get below a certain fuel weight relative to the nearest place they could land if they didn't get any fuel (in case the tanker wasn't able to meet them for some reason, they'd be able to make a safe landing).
