    Never understand why the top pros don't have at least one near identical cue to fall back on. It might not feel precisely the same, but it's going to be a lot better than this scenario

  • @tomalex4806

    I'd be doing the same. Players don't think they should adapt to it having a back up cue. I understand both sides but personally I'd have 2 cues if was playing regularly and I'd wear them both in. It's not impossible like the players are making out, they just can't be arsed to adapt to a second cue. Then again a workman always blames his tools ;)

    Because 2 cues which measure identically feel very different & the game is all about feel. Even a club player finds things very strange with a slightly different cue. There is so little between top pros that even the slightest difference in feel can make a huge difference in winning or losing frame after frame.

    Well the top players struggle financially, and it's hard to afford more than one cue. I even saw Kyren in the local Lidls picking up a few bargains, telling me how tough it is financially. I told him Aldi had a few good deals on that week, so he headed there as well soon after.

    It's all about having confidence in the cue; it doesn't have to be perfect in balance et al. Ray Reardon famously used to play with a cue that was curved like a banana, but over the years he got so used to playing with its defects that he couldn't play with a straight one! Having said that I do agree with the many comments suggesting that pros should always have at least one backup cue to hand. It's ludicrous to think otherwise.

    I have very limited experience but sometimes there is sticky dried beer on the cue, which makes it difficult to play good shots. It's always worth trying a few different ones out of the rack. Also there can be a build-up of 50p pieces which hamper your shot, not to mention some fat bloke's arse getting in the way at the Fruit Machine.

    For anyone who thing a spare cue the answer. Its very difficult to change cue due for the fact the power, feel, weight point, stiffens. thickness and tip need time to brake in. These are unique characteristics of a new cue to get used to it can take upto a year to be 100% with a new cue. (depends how much you play). For most player have a hard time getting used to a new tip if needs replacing in a tournament. Let alone a new cue that a player been playing with for years with the same cue. And inaddtion if you think the answer is to practicing with two cue you are getting better with none of them. Truly you can only grow as a player with a cue of your own

    I have a Parris cue, it's not made particularly well. Something was loose inside, so I took it back to the shop. No, there's nothing wrong after about 3 weeks. Started playing with it again, and yes, it was still loose. Worked out it was the extension joint had come loose so tightened it and it hasn't been an issue since. I would have thought that would have been glued in place. It does play nicely, but the finish. Not so good, and also, there's a massive knot in the shaft, and the splices are raised. I have a couple of Trevor White cues that are faultless. Shame you can never contact him. Somebody I know waited 6 years for an Ultimate. No thanks.

    As I understand the cue case mishap happened AFTER the first session, when Kyren already was 0-8 down. How could the faulty cue then had a negative influence on the first sessions play? It looks to me that the faulty cue actually helped him in the second session win 2 frames. Or maybe Higgins was just better than Kyren those 2 days. Experience comes before youth. Higgins has been working on his come back for a few years now, and wasn't going to be stopped by Kyrens poor shot choices. He just took advantage of the youths inexperience. What stopped Kyren from changing cues anyway?

    No 2 cues are the same. Doesnt matter if you spec it will not react the same way. Cues are not massed produced and each one has its own unique feel and reaction. Yes you can specify the weight and ferrule size etc but its really in the wood and hand splicing that makes each cue totally different. All snooker pros have one cue, and most play with that cue for their entire careers. Its a very subtle thin and almost becomes an extension of the arm. Not that simple Im afraid.

  • @saywhat303

    @saywhat303

    @@TheDeebee26 It is that simple. They're not so different that ya can't get a few feeling very close especially the way they can source them and what would you rather have, a cue you've played a lot with feeling slightly different or your one cue totally messing with your head because it's been lost or broke. Many pros use the same cue just because they've had it for years and how they got it, not because of how it was made.

    I have played snooker for about 15 years to a relatively high standard. I also have a large collection of old and new cues. I have sold numerous cues to well known players and I can categorically tell you that your cue is of huge importance, particularly at the professional level. It is of no coincidence that Hendry lost his game after his cue was destroyed. I know first hand that my game is not half as good when I’m not using my own cue. People who make comments like “Ronnie could pick up a broomstick and beat anyone” have no idea what they’re talking about. So it's basically a problem with tight coupling between the player and the cue. In my profession people avoid tight coupling and go for loose coupling everywhere they can. So I see it as a design flaw of snooker tournaments. Maybe they should all play the standard cues only (give them 8 standard variant options to choose one from). Most sports don't tie players to equipment instances and they're fine.

    Dude a cue is incredibly personal and one that fits you perfectly brings out the best play in you. 8 standard variants? Gross. It would never work.

    What a load of rubbish, he would have thrown the cue across the room at being 8-0 down and damaged it that way (if it is damaged at all). Sounds different but it isn't bent so should still be OK to hit a ball with. Miserable player, zero personality, top 16 player at his very best.

    Never,players always say their cues are an extension of their arm so a different cue is a sure way to lose like Ken Doherty has used the same cue for like 40 years or something like that
