Thank you to everybody who actually sat through this video. If you could have seen me in June 2020 when I was trying to script this originally, the video was super sarcastic and started with me talking about a silly Wattpad fanfiction my former roommate and I found on accident one night. When it was time to try writing it again, I realized if I really wanted to talk about this topic, I was going to need to be real with you. I was going to have to be my actual self in some places to help you understand where I was coming from. Thank you guys for letting me be the real Cleric. So many of us are struggling right now in these troubling times but we will all get through it. Yo girl! The past year has been tragic on so many fronts. Especially on the emotional level. I cut my thumb off in October of 2020 and lost my friends in January. I stumbled across your Kurama video and was surprised to find this posted 6 days ago. How righteous. Yuyu Hakusho is one of my favorite shows since 07. Besides being demonic and seeing a dark underbelly of society it was so emotional. Kuwabara especially! Your video on him is so poetic and does the character justice. Most of the scenes that make me want to cry are all from Kuwabara. He is the relatable one in the series and your right when you say that he is content at the end. Were not at the end of our lives but as long as were alive we can keep fighting the good fight. Thanks for your journey, I hope to see more of your thoughtful content.

This was truly a breath of fresh air. So rarely have I heard someone convey what makes a simple show they love mean so much to them on a personal level. You perfectly encapsulate what makes this show truly great. It comes off very clearly that it is a form of therapy for you the same way it is for me and, I'm guessing, many others. You've done an amazing job at creating a piece of content people can connect with on an emotional level. Just like the characters in this amazing show, I felt a strong bond with you for the past hour as dumb as that may sound. I truly admire your bravery, openness, and strong sense of empathy that shines through this essay like a bright light. For the record, it was really funny too. It's something how these things can help people feel less alone. I've actually wanted to make my own content for quite some time. There are many youtubers that have helped me through hard times, and I really dig the idea of actually creating something that could do the same for someone else. In particular, the first idea I have is on yu yu hakusho. Assuming I ever get off my ass and make it, would it be cool if I sent you a link once it's uploaded? I'd like your opinion. Stay strong in all your endeavors.

That breaking Kuwabara has when he finds out about the others leaving is so painful to me because _it hasn't even been a year._ In less than a year, this 14-year-old watches his friend die *twice*, learns that the afterlife is real, comes close to dying multiple times, and has found a real, higher purpose where he matters. He has saved the world, this can be something he does, a life where he doesn't just get to fight, he fights with friends, side-by-side, shielding the world together. And now they're all leaving him. And with them go his purpose, his resolve. He's being left behind. _They're still not taking him seriously._ Fuck, but that can hit.

Yeah, people love to leave that when they gush about this resolution for kuwabara. When in reality, he went out horribly because the way he got there undermines it. Then again, a lot more things could have been done with him.

Kuwabara is a boss and a real man. The heart we all need for the impacts of 2020 and it’s leftover elements that’ll impact us in 2021!

I love this. Kuwabara aslo deserved more respect and a few better fights. His base weapon is real flexible and don't get me started on the dimension blade.

I truly believe that Kuwabara's only the "weakest character on the team", is because he never once received any of the training Yusuke did. I get that Yusuke was naturally a more adept fighter, which makes sense in hindsight given his ancient demon heritage. But I really believe that Kuwabara had arguable the most untapped potential of anyone on the team, and that if he'd been given the right training to thoroughly develop it, he'd have been right there with either members of team Urameshi.

Kuwabara the heart of the team. At times the comic relief but this man showed the world what it means to have loyalty and respect for one another. The scene where him, Kurama and Hiei were trapped in the dimension trying to draw out the dimension blade was truly heartbreaking and Chris Sabat best delivery for Kuwabara. I love this show!!

Ironically my favorite character isn’t in the 3 kings arc , not having kuabara single handedly made it my 3rd least favorite tournament arc I’ve ever watched

Watched the whole video! Looking back when I was younger I wasn't much of a Kuwabara fan. It was only until I got older that I realized how great a character he is. He really is the heart of the team

Kuwabara is my favorite character couldnt click this video fast enough. He's like the king of empathy and is also extremely humorous and masculine, sometimes I feel insecure about my own masculinity and how I'm perceived, some people in my friend group jokingly call me gay which I usually don't mind but sometimes I feel like a little demeaned. Remembering him as a character is a source of comfort for me, thank you for putting a spotlight on these under-rated characters I hope more people give this series a watch such an uplifting, fun and exciting ride

He is so secure despite the official character book stating that Kuwabara is "mistreated by his family and beaten by Yusuke and by his peers on a daily basis".

This was a fantastic analysis that taught me a lot about Kuwabara. I love seeing breakdowns of shounen characters. Shounen are really underrated because most people just see them as a bunch of pointless fights whose only purpose is to look cool. Which is a such a small minded way to look at these shows. So it's really dope when smart people like you actually sit down and point out that: Hey theres an actual story being told here. Very much appreciated. Also, I actually don't agree with your take on the Myuki section. I thought the way the show handled the topic was fine, but I don't wanna get into that whole debate. lol.

I think a term you might find helpful to replace the "small-minded" bit would be reductionist. Reductionism is like a mind-plague and it's sad to see someone reduce a creation that someone put their heart and soul into to merely a few of the most non-relevant surface-level small details. I remember an ex-friend in middle school I could talk to passionately and excitedly about Naruto as it was still airing, suddenly hitting his "time to be a serious adult" teenage phase and suddenly he was all about Death Note, and that Naruto is stupid because "it's about a blonde asian kid running around". That made me really sad to hear. It's not like they're mutually exclusive, both are great series, but he chose to draw that arbitrary boundary. Later on as a young adult he turned out to become something of an arrogant self-serious jerk. It's too bad, he let go of his inner child to fit into a crowd that probably won't end up doing him much good anyway. The spark of life and color in his eye was suddenly replaced with brooding edge and it seems to have never come back, at least yet.

@@mikeexits I mean...tbh Naruto quickly turned from underdog ninja to DBZ copy and destroyed it's own world building and theme.

The manga shows what everyone's scores in Genkai's games are, and Yusuke's score in Karaoke is 82 points while Kuwabara's score is 57. That said, the manga doesn't say the Karaoke machine measures "adaptability", it says that it measures "life energy, energy latent in the body".

That moment when the screen goes black and people's lack of compassion draws the single "fuck man"... I feel that so much. In fact so many of those screen is black, real talk bits hit really close to home

Although I identify most with Kurama, I admire and respect Kuwabara the most. He wasn't born very smart, so he had to be tough and determined. The boy did the most he possibly could with what he had and challenged himself to become a Veterinarian, a Doctor, despite his low intelligence through sheer determination. The world was cruel, he saw that at a young age, and those with power very rarely had any sense of integrity; looking down on him from their high horse, so he became the honor he wished to see in the world and lived by a code that those who were considered "successful" by society mocked. That never deterred Kuwabara Kazuma, he wasn't honorable for prestige or recognition or reputation's sake, but because if no one else will be honorable, he will. If the world was without compassion, he would be the kindness that people needed. If someone was helpless, he'd be their protection. A true man among men, a Samurai amidst thieves and gangsters that doesn't consider himself better than them or judge them for their rough lives, but empathizes with them and devotes himself completely to whatever he does. Honestly, Yukina is a very lucky girl and I think she knows that because much like Kuwabara, she had the courage to be kind in a cruel world.

I can’t wait for your Hiei video, you have fantastic Yu Yu Hakusho content that I haven’t seen for a long time. It makes me want to rewatch the show all over again.

Kuwabara is easily one of the best characters in Anime. For better or worse he is one of the manliest, maybe not the biggest or strongest but absolutely somebody you'd want having your back. A mulberry is a tree and Kuwabara is a man and hes the kind of man that's great to have around. Great video, looking forward to more :)

Almost teared up watching this like 6 times XD. Kuwabara truly is my favorite character in Yu Yu Hakusho. His resolve and energy is infectious, he really is the heart of this series!

This was a great video, showing why Kuwabara is such a good character and role model. My own thoughts: 1) I'm a little disappointed you skipped the Seiryu fight, because it's one of my favorite Kuwabara moments. Byako taunted Kuwabara, almost killed him like a dozen times, and yet, Kuwabara is outraged at the way Seiryu treats him. It shows how deep Kuwabara's beliefs run. A mulberry is a tree, Kuwabara is a man, and men--in Kuwabara's mind--do not betray their allies, especially not when they're begging for help. 2) That leads into something else I love about this sword-wielding goofball. Rando, Risho, Elder Togura, and more. They all refuse to abide by Kuwabara's honor code, mock it, and basically break it for fun, yet Kuwabara never grows cynical. He never gives up his code, no matter how little his enemies respect it or how badly they hurt him. He's decided what's right, and he'll live and die by his principles with no regrets and always fight against those who stand against them. It's kind of amazing. 3) That shot of Yusuke losing it in Maze Castle when it looked like Kuwabara went into the lava is one of the reasons I love this show: Togashi isn't afraid to let his heroes hurt. To let them suffer and react like real people to their pain and loses instead of trying to be tough all the time. They are tough guys, but it's OK for tough guys to cry. 4) The shot in the finale of Kuwabara standing beside the his friends in the 2nd Demon World Tournament is awesome. It shows just how far he's come, a 100% human being is considered an eligible contender for the throne of Demon World. Well done, Kazuma, well done.

Being happy is always gonna be hard and life tends to always throw you a curve ball when you finally start to believe that things are getting better, that you're finally going to be happy. The thing is though, happiness isn't a destination that you get to it's a process that you always work towards to. Just like how Kuwabara's spirit was indomitable we also have to keep moving forward through every adversity. The past few years have been tough on all of us and watching this video reminded me of all the struggles I had to face but it also put into perspective that from the start of the pandemic to now we managed to survive somehow putting one foot in front of the other. I only got to your channel recently but I ended up falling in love with the content. I hope to hear more from this channel in the future

Great video! Good analysis and relating your perspective and your experiences (with elements that many of your watchers can relate to in 2020 and 2021...and 2022) with Kuwabara's was a great addition to the overview. You have a good voice both in writing and speaking and as tough as things were for you then, I hope they are better for you now. I hope you continue to write, its clear you are quite good at it. I’m doing really good right now. 2021 was the hardest year I hope I’ll ever to endure in my life, let’s just say that the optimism I expressed in this essay became ironic given the way the year treated me. But lately I’ve been so good. Better than myself from a year ago would have thought. I’m just so busy but I’ve been thinking about making a video about Cowboy Bebop lately and how it helped get me through the worst thing that has ever happened to me back in 2021. I just don’t know when that might be, though the possibility of sharing footage of my own corgi makes me want to do it even more.

Not to mention, if you enjoy doing it then you should do more of it, its a hobby now but who knows what the future holds. Also it may get some of those feelings from what happened in 2021 out of your system and that itself might be worth it more than anything else. I've been through some shit too in the last three years and for myself getting that pain out of there in a positive way was the only way I was going to feel better about it. Watching this roughly 2 weeks before the YYH live action series airs and I don’t think I’ve felt someone on a spiritual level more than while watching this vid. I first watched this series when I was around 7 years old and it’s been my favorite all the way into my adulthood & I don’t think I could ever string together the words in any language available to me the way this video did on why Kuwabara is so important despite being weakest member of the team. My favorite member of team Urameshi was and still is Hiei because I unfortunately understand his struggles with connections and vulnerability so I also kinda didn’t give Kuwabara enough credit a lot. But now as an adult I can’t help but root for the big knucklehead and smile every time he succeeds because it almost feels like if he’s doing fine, I’ll eventually be ok even if I’m not right this moment. We need more people like him in the world and if there’s anything the live action needs to capture correctly, it’s Kuwabara’s empathy and lovable ride or die personality

Yeah, I think 2022 is a good goal for a possible Hiei essay. I fear the idea of a Yusuke Essay because with every other video, I get to skip an arc. With a Yusuke essay, I get no such luxury. But for now, the summer 2021 goal is a video or series depending on Wolf's Rain and the topic of love, but we'll see what happens :)

Kuwabara is easily my favorite character in YYH and anime period. The greatest man in all of anime.

while Genkai was important in in the next arc, I believe Kuwabara should have died for real, resulting in them making the choice to save Kuwabara or Genkai. Kuwabara being saved because it wasn't his time to go yet, and Genkai leaving with Toguro in spirit world, or leave her as a spiritual guide to Yusuke.

Another great video. Kuwabara is my favorite Yu Yu Hakusho character. You mentioned in the Kurama video you don't; read the manga so here's a bit of trivia, in the epilogue chapters of the manga , when the next Demon World Tournament happens Kuwabara participates. He is also the strongest pure human fighter. On a more personal level. this comment is posted 1.5 years after you released this video. You mention being purely happy. I hope you have found it, or are at least on the path to finding it. Don't end up like me, someone who has long forgotten the last time I was purely happy or even what purely happy even feels like. and I have no idea how to find it.

I didn't watch most of the 1st few episodes so I didn't think much of kuabara until the tournament arch. I realized halfway through that he showed up knowing he wasn't strong enough to survive but did it anyway because it would've been the death of everyone else

Yu Yu Hakusho was my favorite when I started watching anime and kuwabara was always my favorite even though he is the weakest he doesn't back down or give up

You know, I'd like to know your thoughts on the OVA and Movies. I always put YYH in my top 3 anime and I love hearing how much love people have for it, but it's rare to see anyone bring up anything outside of the anime, including Yusuke's time in Jump Force.

I’m personally not a fan of Eizou Hakusho since the OVAs mostly took a kinda frivolous approach (like Yusuke marrying Botan in one? I know it was a dream butttttttt not for me haha) and they’re not my style. I have very similar feelings on the Golden Seal film and although I haven’t seen the other movie, I can’t imagine it would change much since Shonen anime movies all kind of have that same non-canon spice that doesn’t really sit great with me personally. As for Jump Force, that’s not really my genre of video game unfortunately, so although Hiei, Yusuke and Toguro are in the game, I don’t see myself buying it just because I don’t enjoy playing those kind of video games. I’m your boring turned based RPG person, haha. So unfortunately, my only opinions are either I’m not a fan (OVAs and Golden Seal) or I haven’t seen/played them and don’t really have intentions to. Sorry to disappoint!!

@@StudentCleric Isn't there a theory about Eizou where Kurama planted the seed of the sinning tree into Yusuke so he will get like the worst nightmares possible. Also Poltergeist report has some stupidly good animation so on a visual front it's worth watching
