One of the many things I love about being a Sina fan -- she keeps introducing me to music I'd otherwise missed, like this one. Impeccable playing, as we've come to expect, on a very pretty ballad. Variety is the spice of Sina!

If you can pick up this album and any other Marillion one you can find. They were a real under appreciated band. Check out Misplaced Childhood, it's one of my favorite albums.

I agree with Shado131313 (UFO reference?). Marillion was one of my favourite bands back in the day. They also did excellent B-sides (there is a released album of just B-sides ... who else does that). One of their early B-sides was a 17 minute long song called "Grendel", based on the story of Beowulf. Also worth a listen

Funny thing is that although this song was quite a big hit around 1985-86, many of Marillion's other songs are way better, in my opinion, at least longer and more complex, something to really dive into. You have a lot of nice surprises in wait. Try "Chelsea Mondays" for starters. After Fish and the rest of Marillion split, I think the band lost its magic. They are all brilliant musicians, but Fish was the mastermind behind it all. Subsequently, Fish made some nice solo albums, though, the first being "Vigil in a Wildernes of Mirrors", and it has that old-school Marillion touch. Simply brilliant. And as always, Sina plays them drums perfectly.

Thanks for choosing this one, Sina! Marillion was one of the bands popular in student circles when I was at university in the 1980s. I remember a friend having a huge poster from the album "Script for a Jester's Tear" on his wall at uni, and being astonished that I hadn't heard (of) Marillion. So we sat and listened to the entire album, and I immediately went out and bought it -- on vinyl, because the compact disc had only been invented a year previously, and very few studios had started to use it. It doesn't include "Kayleigh" of course, as that only came out two years later, but I remember being delighted when Marillion released a single and it was such a success. Just a pity it was their only really successful single. And am totally jealous at your having seen them live!

"Kayleigh" is certainly the biggest Marillion hit ever and is still played up and down by many mainstream radio stations. Here Ian Mosley was already on the drums, who, at least I think, is one of those rock drummers who are wrongly underestimated. In any case, Sina once again manages to put on the long-deserved rock crown on her rock drums by her drumming, a very well-deserved but nonetheless very underrated artist!

Hi guys! We're not going to have the usual write-up this week. We had some out-of-town relatives who stayed over for a few days. That, plus preparing a Mardi Gras dinner for everybody (Chicken Gumbo and Red Beans & Rice), classes, and a bit of burnout from the previous two weeks just left no time. I won't leave you hanging though. Here's a mini write-up. Marillion is a British neo-prog-rock, post-punk, pop band that became very popular in Europe during the 80s. Their biggest hit "Kayleigh" was released in 1985 and reached #2 in the UK and was top-20 in many other European countries. It didn't do well across the pond peaking at #74 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was their only song to chart. The album it came from, 'Misplaced Childhood', was also their most successful, hitting #1 in the UK, #3 in Germany and top-10 in a number of other countries. It peaked at #47 on the Billboard 200. Marillion tried a US tour in 1983 but "it was a disaster". They tried again in 1986 after 'Misplaced Childhood' but were "almost completely ignored in the US." So, that's the thing. Euro viewers know all about Marillion and don't need me to tell them anything. Other viewers may have never heard of the song or the band. If you want to know more, Wikipedia is at your service and you might want to try SongFacts too at www.songfacts.com/facts/marillion/kayleigh Hopefully, we'll see y'all next week!

Thank you for your outstanding drum covers and your wonderful Original music Sina! About 3 years ago I was letting Deep Purple videos play one after the other, when your cover of My Woman from Tokyo came up. I was not a fan of drum covers at that time and was almost ready to skip it but decided to let it play. I was instantly taken in by your Hi Hat intro and knew then, that you were serious. By the end of the video, I was now letting Sina Drums drum covers, play one after the other. Today I watch more of your videos (covers and originals) than any other thing on KZread. I, at the time, had lost my job due to a bankruptcy and couldn't afford to support you. Though I'm not "Rich", I can finally help and glad happy to. Love all of your drum covers and of course your original music and it's a great thing you are doing to help outstanding up and coming young artist that you've introduced to us all. Can't wait for Chi Might III to come out. I will continue to anticipate your next cover or original videos as long as you can continue. But hey, what you've already released, we can all hopefully enjoy for a very long time. Sorry for the long dissertation! This is my first comment on your channel. By the way this is a fresh song for me here in the U.S. but very Genesis like, even with Phil Collins like vocals. Great job, as usual! Peace!

Yes the songs of the eighties. Music gave the right imprint these years. Music helps us to think back to the eighties in a certain way, sometimes moody, sometimes sad. Times were different then, better? In relation to the music in any case. The variety was just bigger. We filled this music into the recorders and listened to it during long car journeys. I associate a lot of memories with the songs from the eighties. Thank you for the video and thank you to everyone involved. 💖💖💖💖🥇👍😎

Dear Sina, as a full professional drummer for many international artists, i have to say; you not only play the music, no you ´re IN the music and thats what counts. That´s what is it all about. Being IN the music, being the song, the music. It´s the only thing that counts. So many drummer out there showcasting speed and technique without playing the music. So, you´re on the right path. Keep up this path! Play music, practice, become a pro.. Great joice of music. I love the chucks :-) and your drumkit. All the best Sina and much Love. R.U.

Steve Hogarth has been the longest serving vocalist in the band and yet, Fish era (Derek William Dick) put neo-prog on the map. All other members remained with Marillion from this album. Ian Mosley has a very colourful career before joining Marillion on Misplaced Childhood and previous album Fugazi has been their drummer ever since. Steve Hogarth was in The Europeans and Fish was a fan of Steve's before he joined Marillion. Named after The Silmarillion by J. R .R Tolkien. The book finished posthumously by his son. It is the era before Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit. Marillion, historically, thanks to Mark Kelly (keyboards) was one of the first rock bands to embrace crowd funding as Sina utilizes in the present day, way back in the 90s. So I'm very happy Sina has recognised this incredible enduring rock band to this present day. Steven Rothery, Pete Trewavas I hope they enjoy this, I'm going to feature it where they will!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😊❤ Other bands from this era, Pallas, Pendragon, It Bites, Twelfth Night, IQ, Arena (Mick Pointer founer of Marillion with Steve Rothery). Ian Mosley appears on Renaissance albums worked with Darryl Way (co-founder of Curved Air) with Darryl Way's Wolf. Worked with Rik Van Der Linden replacing Focus drummer Pierre Van Der Linden in Rik's band Trace (Netherlands). Worked with Steve Hackett former Genesis guitarist and Gordon Giltrap!!!.

Is it only me who can se a change or if you want a development, in her drumming. Lately its more feeling, more moving around over the drumset. More confidence, that makes the drumming to be even more alive. its nice to watch.

They are quite heavily influenced by Genesis, though. Not to the point of being a copy, by all means, but still... I do prefer the original, though, if push comes to show. Genesis over Marillion, that is. No shadow on Sina!

@@Innerspace100 Actually the Genesis influence was only present on the first two Marillion albums. The next albums "Misplaced Childhood" and "Clutching At Straws" were much more unique and with Steve Hogarth replacing Fish on vocals Marillion took a whole new direction in musical terms.
