That's exactly why I avoid politics as much as I can. It is impossible to live a perfect life. People who point out my flaws are hypocrites. And if I were to point out theirs I'd be hypocritical. Unless you're a monk or something of that nature nobody really lives a life without a few vices.

You wouldn't have your little plastic kayaks without oil, or the oars, or all they safety gear your using, or the signs you are displaying. The radio on the organizers outfit couldn't exist without oil...its glasses are made from oil...most of its clothing is oil based. They really aren't thinking this through.

Chevron has improved so much since the 70's and 80's. I delivered papers in the projects in the 70's at 5:00 am with my dad on the week ends. The smell was really bad every time. I built there in the 80's and never smelled that again. Bought a home there in the 90's and never smelled it. We need to appreciate the changes rather than griping that it's not perfect.

You’re right, it has improved a lot!15+ years of Richmond residents organizing to make our city healthier has contributed greatly to putting pressure on Chevron and its governing bodies, such as the Bay Area Air Quality Monitoring Board, to do the right thing thing and put less particulate matter etc into the local environment. It’s been an inspiring example of how change can happen over time but don’t expect corporations who are beholden to their shareholders to do it just because they know it’s the right thing to do. People power! ✊ And may our organizing in Richmond inspire other cities who are experiencing harm from pollution to take action too.

Were the 'Kayak-tivists" able to convince the Wicked Witch of the West to give up Her magic? In their kayaks made by Her magic? Dyin' to know!
