Best guide to Stockholm ever, it looks great. No doubt the x500 is a touring kayak.

Thanks! It was a trip to remember. I've done 40+ km in a day in the X500 a few times since then, but at the point of this paddle, I didn't know whether it would be feasible. It was a good day on the water!

My best was 46 km in a day, but I did it in a thermoformed kayak, which paddles easier than an inflatable. It took me 7 hours. It felt good as long as I was paddling, but when I got out of my kayak, I could barely walk. Usually, I paddle 20 - 25 km a day.

Nice! Yeah, with an inflatable, it's quite a bit of extra work. The X500 treated me nicely though. I actually felt more weak in the knees and arms when I paddled 50 km in a day with a plastic basic sea kayak last year, but that was a rental and I actually used a heavy aluminum paddle, so extra punishment 😂I would personally consider anything over 25 km as a longer-than-usual day trip as well. Then of course, if one were going for the distance only with minimal breaks, it would be possible to paddle much further than 50, 60, perhaps 70, in a day - but it's all about the experience along the way as well! I had great times during my longer paddles, including getting up on tiny islands and exploring them + panorama views etc.

Best line yet (Very ABBA very Swedish) "healthy" chocolate bar looked nice. Great to see some new footage from when you did this. Love the way you point out the landmarks, such as City Hall. Well done Patrik. Also loved the cheering at the end. I have just been editing a quick safety tip video that I will be posting later and left a link to your channel so people can see more.

Hehe! Yes, that and *everyone* carries their kayaking stuff in IKEA bags during expeditions, even if that's not unique to Sweden. Thanks! The safety tip video will be nice to see. There's the "Paddling safety (...)" Facebook group where you could also share that if you'd like, and I might add a community post on my channel linking to your vid after watching. Unless it includes advice against chocolate or ice cream!

Very interesting 🤔 two things that did jump out was near the beginning when your GPS on your watch stopped and you had to calculate the distance to add it all together I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't have bothered So nice one. Also just before the end you could hear your watch giving the full mileage and distance information and if you hadn't recalculated at the beginning you would have never known if you actually completed the marathon 👍👍

Really enjoy watching your posts. I'm planning on a 24 kilometres paddle at the end of June. I'm interested to find out what paddle or paddles your using when long distance paddling. I will be touring along a ship canal that's a fairly easy & primarily a very long still water come june this year. Happy paddling .

Glad you enjoy the videos - thanks for watching! The 24 km canal paddle sounds nice! Will you be using a portable (maybe inflatable) kayak as well and get out at the end point and take public transport back, or are you paddling in one direction and then back? All my paddles are multi-part (2 or 4 parts) for portability since I often travel with public transport. Here, I use a wing paddle, but I also often use light carbon fibre euro paddles. Carbon fibre is expensive but awesome in terms of the low weight, with fiber glass being the next option. Many friends of mine use greenland paddles for less strain, and easier load on the shoulders.

Hi sir, I'm considering to purchase the carbon/plastic paddle from itiwit dismantable in 5 parts (130 Euro). Can i ask you please what you think about and for the same budget if you advise something else? I live in Brussels and my project for this summer is to cross the Rhine river from Frankfurt to Köln. For this I should take the public transport. All the best for you and your channel

Hi David, sounds like quite an adventure you have planned there! Wish you the best for your trip. Myself, I've only got the 2-piece Itiwit paddle that looks similar to the 5-piece one you mention, which works nicely as a basic paddle, but I haven't tried the 5-piece, I'm afraid. My advice for a long trip though would be to bring a spare paddle in all cases, in case there's damage or loss to your main paddle.

@@AirOnTheWater Thank you so much for your answer. I have used the aluminium one (36 euro) for a long time. I think it's time to make myself a pleasure and upgrade. I'll keep the aluminium one as a spare in the case i need it. If I succeed in this project, I'll record it and I'll send you the link of the video. Best regards,

@@davidzoltan5263 Sounds good! Yes, you will definitely find it a good investment to upgrade to a lighter paddle than the basic aluminum. Good luck!

My longest paddle was 13 miles. We started in San Diego (California) harbor and went out the channel into the open ocean. We were chasing the tall ships-the Star of India and the Californian. The Star of India ship is an iron hulled ship from the 1800's that still sets sail from time to time. These are those magnificent ships with all the sails. Any photos of San Diego harbor will have these ships in them. It took me a few days to recover from paddling 13 miles! The harbor and open ocean is big water with lots of sailboat traffic, shipping containers, yatchs and Navy ships so it takes extra effort to keep your kayak upright. 💦🛶

Very cool with the ships! I've chased down one particular sailing ship once, but nothing of that magnitude. And as you say, those waters of course require a lot more work and attention! My paddle in this video had really optimal circumstances, a bit of wind and mild chop at some point, but mostly almost flat water. I've done a 50 km paddle which was about 40% against the wind though, which was definitely more tiring 😂

@@AirOnTheWater I can't imagine paddling 26 miles or more in one day! There's a paddle my group has done (not me, yet) that they call the Bay to Bay which is 16 miles long going from Mission Bay to San Diego Bay. The thing about this is there's no place to beach and get out to stretch your legs or find a tree or bush ☺️ or break for a snack/lunch. It's like once you commit you are stuck in your kayak a solid 16 miles. Oh, I forgot, I circumnavigated around Coronado Island which is 12-13 miles. But again there's no place to stop and beach and get out of your kayak. Watching your videos makes me feel like I'm in Stockholm! I'm beginning to recognize landmarks! 😆

@@karenlegotte417 Nice! The video is kind of intended as a bit of a guide, and this summer there's a more advanced version intended 😎 Paddling for that long, I think as you indicate possible breaks along the route are quite important. I don't think I'd start out that kind of challenge if I didn't know I had different options along the way. You never know if you get cramps or pain somewhere, and also it's supposed to be fun after all! A nice island break is part of the fun and exploration!
