@@BackridgeButcher You could try that if it happens again, might work might not. I was a goat culler once and some dogs would take you to where they had something bailed and some wouldn't. If ya didn't have the dog you couldn't bail it. And by the way it went up hill after being hit it will probably live anyway. Don't sweat it mate dogs going well.👍

Not finding a deer sux, it’s one of those things that you never forget, if you care. you remember it clearly no mater how much time passes, excellent effort to recover it, well done.

Hi I have a thermal spotter a complete game changer, yes you might pick them up in your binos but the thermal is so much quicker once you have learned how to use them and got used to them. I was always against having them but after trying I won't leave home without them

Was trying to explain this to a young fella just the other day. No matter how many years experience you have you will lose won or miss a few now and then. Got to take the good with the bad. It's all part of the formula

You can't use a Thermal spotter on DOC land but it's ok for them to drop 1080 everwhere. The logic of a Govt Dept.

Loosing them is the worst feeling alright. Man it sucks! That shot looked good to me, almost wonder if Annie tracked straight in on it but the yearling who likely hung around then ran off and Annie then chased it which is what the first bail up would have been? Never know I guess aye and that’s the most frustrating part.

Its a discussion that needs to happen, I get tired of hearing about too many deer here and there, so why shouldn't we be able to use a great tool like this?? I don't believe those making the rules understand the technology and might be afraid of it

Called in to KF Biv last summer ( Not too far for old farts as well as the young 'uns) Never have I heard so many kiwi calls late evening and early morning and kaka went all day. Well done trapping crew you are doing a great job. Please learn to reset the 200's so if they have been tripped you have another chance of capture before the crew goes through. Each trap is numbered and I am sure a quick E-mail to NZ hunter quoting number , date and catch species will be appreciated.

@@BackridgeButcher The lid is held on by screws, normally only a couple. A leatherman will do the trick. If I manage to knock over a veni and the heart is badly shot up (Or liver) putting some of that in the trap will pull in the ferrets and rats for the next few days. Don't forget to drag the heart/liver across the ground and right up to the entrance to the trap. Leaving small off cuts along the drag trail all helps too. Should be a vid out there somewhere showing how to do this

Brother. The permit wording is ambiguous. It says.Hunting with any night vision equipment, thermal imaging, infrared or heat detecting devices..it doesnt mean you cant use a thermal to find deer, just you cant use one to hunt them on a rifle
