I absolutely love my 98 7R! Back in the day my friends told me it was too big and crazy! I bought it anyway and honestly the 600’s seemed like more of a handful. Nowadays the looks my bike gets is crazy! The 90’s were a crazy unique and personalized era where there was a bike for everybody. Now it seems as though it’s all just cookie cutter

I think while the new bikes are very very competent, sometimes they're just too good and have lost a little 'character'. It might be something to do with these rose tinted specs that come with every 90s bike though! 😂

My 02 7r was my first sports bike after 6 years out of the saddle. A very friendly bike and confidence inspiring bike. Granted a newer 600 will have your pants down but it's such a good road bike that you wouldn't trade it for a lairy 600 anyway. I can go to any bike meet and will nearly always be the only 7r there amongst the lines of gsxrs/r1s and it always gets admiration even from non bikers. Damn it's heavy tho and u-turns Infront of a crowd can be a bit unnerving at times:D

Big fan of all the ZXR/7R bikes.. Never owned a 7R but a mate bought one new back in ‘98. I have an H2 ZXR that I bought fairly recently, all standard except the Micron can. I had a few H2s back in the day so I bought this one to relive the memories, like you do 😊 I also have a ‘98 GSXR750 SRAD which rides very well even though they’re getting on a bit.. I have a few other bikes, but the ZXR is my favourite & the only one I won’t sell.

The power delivery is smooth but it is quite a harsh ride as you point out, not the quickest of things but more than capable of having a lovely ride out and getting from A to B very quickly.

The speedo and drive can go, and the steel brackets, coolant reservoir, and replace those ultra heavy cast aluminum 3-spoke wheels with anything else. @@elchepo5529 - taking the weight off will help ANYONE. The bike will handle better, stop quicker and accelerate harder. I dropped 22 lbs by replacing the exhaust system with a 5.25 lb Muzzy full titanium system and another 30+ lbs by removing the rear sub frame, all the brackets and unnecessary hardware and replacing everything possible with racing equipment. You can make HUGE weight savings and performance gains (handling, braking, acceleration) by replacing those stock wheels with lightweight racing wheels. A word of caution if you do that though. Those heavy stock wheels played a big role in how stable and solid handling the ZX-7 is. When you reduce all that unsprung and rotational weight it has a huge effect on handling. The bike will become rather nervous and not as stable but can carve corners and flip back and forth through chicanes and such like a wild animal. That's an expert only modification but if your skill set is ready you can turn that warthog into a cheetah with lightweight wheels.
