Valve Seat Contact Must use blue to make sure valve makes contacts on entire valve seat. If valve is not in 100% contact with valve seat low or no compression. Take head and valve to a machine shop to have a machinist re seat 1 valve. Easy to check and only a few $$ to have a machine shop to grind seat on one valve. You can lap in a valve to seat with grind compound the valve and a drill. Better faster cheeper to have a machine shop re seat 1 valve. You have to understand if the valve will not make contact on entire valve seat no or low compression and you can not wear in the valve to the valve seat by running the engine. Again Check Valve Seat Contact Check!!!

Surely while disassembled it would be wise to seat ALL valves with grinding paste.

I've been messing with my carbs for the last few days trying to tune it and the air box is a bitch! You have to play with it A LOT before both boots get on the carb intake. First time it slipped right in on both sides. Next couple times took me about 10 min each.

Make sure you slide the springs to the back of the carb intake tube. This creates enough space to slide the air box onto the intake side then you can move the springs forward with a screwdriver to seal the tube to the carb.

It’s been a long time now since I worked on that bike. My first thought we be bad head gaskets or major wear to the piston/cylinder walls. Make sure you check the ninja 250 forums. They cover pretty much everything.
