Kawasaki Ninja 650 Beginner's Guide to Bike Riding

Aimed towards new riders, an idiot attempts to use words to describe his riding experience and give advice. Also horrible at video editing...

    @Super Sport Gaming just take it off the peg and kick it out and rotate. If it's a legit bad cramp, find a way to safely pull over and deal with it. It is actually super easy to become dehydrated when riding, so it isn't as uncommon as you'd think. If something is happening that in any way limits your ability to operate the bike, better safe than sorry, otherwise just wiggle it out.

    Great video bro. I've never rode a bike and not even a stick shift on a car. I've definitely watched Plenty of videos to basically comprehend what's going on, but I'm ready to get one, I'm so conflicted about a 250 ninja 600/650. I guess it really depends on the person. My friend started on an R1. He really didn't know what he was doing but someone taught him and if I can get a friend to teach me and take some legit courses I think a 650 it possible.

    I just bought one of these its a 2015 ninja 650. I dont have a license yet but Im almost finished with that. I cant wait to ride it. I have been riding for a few years without a license but I just moved to the UK and cant ride here without a license, there are too many cameras lol. I use to drive around with 50 bucks in my pocket and every time the cops pulled me over and asked for my license I would just give them a 50 and they would just say "have a good day sir" and off they went. That doesnt work here in the UK so I have to get my license :(

    lol thats awesome. Yeah the $50 trick wont work where I live, but the good news is that moving violations are all reduced to parking tickets so the local town gets to keep the fine and does not have to remit it to the state...So speeding tickets don't exist here, which helps me out a lot.

    hey man is the kawasaki ninja 650 automatic? ima be honest im thinking of getting this bike as a beginner bike but im scared of manual transmission i also have another interesting question what do you think is a better beginner bike? the 2022 ninja 400 or the 2021 ninja 650?

  • @716Flat4

    @716Flat4

    2 жыл бұрын

    no the 650 is not an auto and such a feature is rare to find in any bike. I completely understand the hesitation, but if you take it slow at the beginning, stay off main roads and learn to do all that stuff, it will become muscle memory in no time. As far as a better beginner bike, there are a couple things to consider. My 650 is older and weighs like 470lbs with a full tank. the newer 650 is 420lbs, 50 lbs lighter and more maneuverable for that reason. that being said, the 400 is like 360lbs. It is ridiculously light weight. This really makes a difference when it comes to doing goofy shit or avoiding a thing in the road etc, but it comes with the downside of being more reactive to wind and gusts. So, riding in a storm or riding past a truck on a 2 lane road...those kinda things the 400 will be a tad more reactive to and you will feel the force of the wind more. Both will feel it though. Ultimately the 400 likes being wound up at high revs, it will be a tad slower to accelerate and its top speed will be a tad lower. If your intentions are to cruise and just have a good time under 100mph, then the 400 would be my choice. if you think you will be a bit more addicted to accelerating fast and going a tad faster, the 650 is the choice. both are solid options, both have similar features and both will be outstanding learner bikes. my advice would be to look for a used one in great condition. try to save a bit of money on this first bike, learn, grow and as you are doing that you will figure out what kind of rider you actually are and can navigate from there. Either one you choose will be a good ride. Have fun, be safe and thanks for watching man.

    Hey bro, I just wanna ask if the 650 is actually a good first bike or should I start off with a 250? I'm just afraid I'm not capable of handling the power. Yet again I dont want to sell the bike after a month cuz I've heard that most people get over the 250 in like a month or two.

  • @716Flat4

    @716Flat4

    I think the 650 is one of the best to learn on. Older ones will be a tad heavier, but I learned to ride on one so IMO it is a solid choice. Power-wise it brings a lot more to the table but still in a 2-cylinder package. I have 2 years with the 650 now and finally went down a tooth on the front sprocket. Less top end and slightly higher RPM, but way more fun to play in the 0-80mph range. I think many will always want more power but in a 650 I think you will find several years of satisfied use.

    that will come down to personal comfort. There are ways to get it lowered either with thinner seats or byt changing some things with the bike. I personally just barely flat foot this. I have been on bikes that make me tippy toe...I personally do not like it. If you got most of your foot down, then Id say it is fine, but if you are on tippy toes, a strong gust of wind while you are stopped at a light could give you a bad day.

    depends on preference. look for ECE certifications on helmets. Snell is another great certification. On average with a few exceptions, those helmets will start around $300ish. I wear an AGV, but I am thinking on going to a new one for next season. Go to Revzilla and follow the head shape thing, then go to the local shops and find the one on your list that meets the safety and also feels good. should feel pretty snug to start off and if you are unsure you can either do more research or ask a salesperson. Arai, Shoei, HJC, Bell, AGV...all of them make pretty good helmets with various fits, prices and looks. Thanks for watching and ride safe!

Could you tell me a bit about why you chose that over the new 400? Like I said you and I were in a similar starting point and those are both bikes that I've researched and considered heavily so I'd be placing your opinion/advice in high regard. Like I mentioned on my other comment the 400 is the one I actually intend to buy as of right now but maybe your input will change my mind? Please respond to this comment or message me or whatever when you can bro I'd really appreciate it! I'm sure you remember how stressful it is trying to pick that first bike lol

  • @716Flat4

    @716Flat4

    Honestly, the truth is it came down to cost and the ability to get a faster bike for less. I am not saying the 400 is small. I got super nervous about it being so though. Every other video is a debate about what size bike to get right. So here is the honest to goodness truth. The slipper clutch, is for downshifting, does not really do much else for you, I was shifting miserably there just because of my lack of experience. The 650 I got does not have the slipper clutch. Unfortunately it does not have ABS either. I DO wish I had ABS. Yeah...maybe it can train a person to brake harder than they should, but I would rather have it. Ultimately, I am an acceleration junkie. not speed so much, and if there is truth to needing or wanting a faster bike I just didn't want to fall victim to that. The weight of both bikes is easy to manage. I think the 400 looked better (especially that grey/yellow), think the 400 looks amazing. it is super light, looking back I can easily tell the 400 was a lot lighter, even as a new rider. the new 650's look great too though. Lol, man, its so true, buying your first bike is nothing short of torture. If you have any questions feel free to post em up, I will try to offer whatever help I can.

    @@716Flat4 thanks so much for getting back to me bro. I've been researching this crap for over a year now but the last two days I had s breakthrough (i think) lol. I've realized that I'd probably lust for more power regardless if I got a 300, 400, or a 650 so why pay more up front for a tad more power than I'd still out grow anyways? I was only entertaining the new 650s and 400s because I wanted a bike I would keep for years and years to avoid the hassle or selling and getting a new one but I just gave in. I decided to get a used 300, build confidence and good fundamentals (trying to opt out of abs/slipper clutch) then once I'm super comfy and confident (2 seasons I'm guessing) I'll go ahead and finance my brand new R6 😁. First bike Torture over💁🏾‍♂️ (hopefully I stick to this line of thinking 😂). I'll keep you posted bro Ride safe until next time 🤙🏾

  • @716Flat4

    @716Flat4

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yeah man, I would say those are the top 2 options unless you want/need more power. Kawasaki makes a lot of really great bikes with an upright riding position. The Vulcan is also a 650 upright bike but is more of a cruiser style. They make a RS900 that is like a cafe racer and of course the ninja 1000, which is the 4 cylinder 1 liter sport touring bike which is nearly as upright as the 650. I would go to whatever shop is near you and ask to test ride whichever bikes you're considering. If you are more reserved on power but want to have all the thrills a bike can offer, the 400 should also be on the list. Let me know what you end up getting!

    I’m 6’2” and find my 2019 Ninja 650 totally fine for low-moderate use. This is my first bike though so it’s not like I have much to compare this to other than brief sit-ons at the dealership, but, I will say, that I often use my bike for exploring on the weekends and tend to stay out for 6-8 hour periods, and if anything, where I tend to feel the limited space is in my knees. Kawasaki sells an accessory extended seat which adds an inch, and I’ve been thinking about it, but honestly, if I feel soreness only after riding 6+ hours on my bike at a time, eh, is the steep price they charge for it worth it? Up to you. I also use my bike as a daily commuter btw, and ya, the bike is totally fine for me. What also massively helps is the amount of room you have to actually move around in your seat and reposition yourself from time to time from full tuck to full upright seating positions. Just ensure you aren’t stuck in one position for too long a time and you should be fine 👌

    Brother you will be ok. Take it slow and stay calm. when in doubt, clutch in and gently brake. The only thing to be aware of is that you will gain confidence faster than skills. Congrats on the new ride!!! and thanks for watching.

    do you have power when you turn the key? if so, you likely are in gear and/or have a safety that wont allow you to start without pulling in the clutch. Be careful, if it is in gear and you let go of the clutch while it is on, it will jump on you.

    Thank God for that number plate holder, the reg plate holders on the new models are HIDEOUS. Everyone who buys a new Motorbike should replace it so the reg plat is directly-ish under the seat only, Spoils the style of the Bike.
