I'm not too familiar with kava and its usage, but it does posses the potential to cause cirrhosis and liver failure according to the sources I've found. Could be healthier than alcohol, but to what degree?

It's safe if it is noble kava. Tudei kava is bad. I recommend lateral root powder only. Then get a 100 or 75 micron strainer. Put kava powder in the strainer. Knead it for 20 minutes in warm water around 105 degrees Fahrenheit. Serve. I do not recommend instant kava or capsules. Go as natural as you can. The reason people can get liver damage is because they probably used Tudei kava, used more than just the roots such as the bark, did not strain well, or drank with alcohol. Don't drink with alcohol! Although I know people who drink this every day without liver damage reported, I recommend kava maybe twice a month. It's expensive and best for social settings.

I would take a critical view of this research. Some of these studies are flawed because the participants used other drugs that may have affected the liver. But I'm not an expert. However, I've been using Kava for more than a decade, and every year my liver checks out A-okay. I also no longer drink alcohol. One more thing, a Kava bar is usually a wonderful place to hang. People are friendly and the atmosphere is laid back.

@thomascohen9924 Yes, you should not drink alchohol or kava until either is 100% out of your system. Kratom can be addictive. Be careful, especially when you are buying pre-made teas, there's no standards yet (in America) for strength or anything. Just ask about how many grams for a Bru/Tea or ask if they sell a drink with powder that they can weigh out. Most people will limit at 3-4g's of Kratom first time but some bars will have drinks thay are easily in the 10-20g range

@@juliusknerr4733 correct, only comment here speaking that fact. Imo mixing them up could be the downfall of kava. Kratom physically addictive kava not. Been around both for 13.5 years but kava is absolutely not as dangerous for your average consumer as kratom. 90ish% of kava bars are pretending kratom is just another plant just like kava when it’s not, due to many factors but mainly it causes physical addiction.
