Just saying how appreciative I am for sharing your skills. Fingerpicking is particularly important when moving to intermediate playing. This is where we amateurs really start to feel the musicality (and thus the magic). So, really big thanks to you, Chris. You're a game changer for me and many others i suspect.
had to explore all the youtube kathy's songs of course and yours is the best, most genuine to the Paul Simon version I remember from the 60's, of course my gold standard. Your speed of instruction and videography is the best. I'll keep slogging on rewatching, and rewatching, etc and am making progress, though slowly. Fortunately, so far as I know, I have time. This is a song that guitar alone can carry, even if I can't sing it, becauase it is so familiar and so beautiful. Will contribute my due to your channel.

Well done. Very clear and taught at a good rate. Lots of demonstration, perfect when used in conjunction with the pause button and the YT slow down function when necessary. Along with For Emily, Kathy’s is among my favorite Paul Simon finger picking compositions.

Beautifully done. Many thanks. The thing that I find odd in trying to get Paul Simon’s style is to get my third finger out of the way (on the right hand). It’s all thumb and two fingers on the right hand AFAICS.

Really great lesson! I've always been in awe of Paul's guitar abilities and love his tunes. And the way you can listen to his music and break it down for us is also amazing! Thank you! Question: when I started fingerstyle, I learned that the thumb played strings 4,5,6 and the index, middle, ring played 3,2,1. In this song your thumb played 3 a few times. Is there a 'rule of thumb' about what each finger should play?
@aparto6036
2 жыл бұрын
With this style of playing its important to keep the thumb in a rythm, so for example with a G chord you alternate with the 6th and 4th string, and the c with the 5th and 4th. With the D chord the base note is already on the 4th string, so to keep the alternating thumb pattern you alternate between the 4the and 3rd string. With basically every other chord you keep the thumb on the 4,5 and 6th string
@SixStringFingerpicking
2 жыл бұрын
Cheers Dan, really glad you like it. What aparto has said is spot on. It's all about keeping the thumb in motion. What you have learnt previously is a good general rule but certainly there are times when the thumb should play the higher strings. Thanks again
Nice clear playing and tuition. My only suggestion is you put some soft furnishings in your room to absorb the echo
NICE
Very nice tutorial sir. Did Paul Simon use a capo like he always usually does? Thanks! Cheers and blessings from Michigan usa

Wonderful lesson and a beautiful song. Love Paul Simon fingerpicking. Can you do a lesson on Jackson Browne's "These Days". The solo acoustic version (or Niko version) t's a similar style. I love the song and have always been amazed at how good it sounds on guitar. It sounds like more than one instrument. Thanks

At this point 16:45-17:34 and 18:48 once im done the 4th bar how do I transition back into the beginning of the verse like you said? Cant seem to figure that out. Otherwise excellent tutorial, I was able to learn the majority of this song in like 2 hours, this song even helped me to finally get bar chords right. But I just cant get that one transition down, its tricky
Ive played queen of California so much its tricky at the beginning 😂😂

Thanks for making me hate myself right now... I could totally get this down in like an hour or so. But I'm lazy and scared. Scared of what?... not even sure. I used to play a lot. Loved your vid. Made some progress. But fell for the "Full lesson and TAB" and fell into a rabbit hole of complications at the website with printing problems, another company, proving I'm a person, etc. never got the printout and from what I could see I think I might as well just slog thru the video for hours. Oh, well, you'll get a lot of viewing time out of me and I've got the time for this beautiful song. Your VIDEO instruction is well done-your back stage money part is crap. Hire someone to just make a website for you to accept payments and print out some pages. Woodworking sites do it with far more sophistication and simplicity and I suspect success. Read a bunch of comments, didn't see anybody praising the "sheet music" end of it, just watching the video. My mistake.

Did eventually get the printout, but have no idea why, and still think its overly complicated and too promotional. I guess easy for me to say, not being aware of the economics of KZread/online guitar instruction, tho will know more after an upcoming in-person chat with a guy doing well at it. So here's some apology I needed to get out.
Completely wasted the Hendrix song! And, I mean that in a bad way!
Hi, I've shot you a message on Insta a while ago but I'll try here as well, I'd love to buy some tabs from you but the only payment option is a cc, is there another way we could arrange the payment?
