I read her book in one day a few months back, and it was amazing. I love Katey Sagal. I grew up and then away from a difficult mother. It is difficult to break patterns, but it can be done.

I love those pivotal moments as a parent when you realize you made a better choice than your parent did with you... sounds harsh, but it's a such a great feeling. My daughter was able to comfortably share with me (like it was no big deal) that she had her first period, which is something I hid from my mother (out of fear?? embarrassment?? not sure). It was something I thought about a lot when she was younger, and made sure she and I had that close relationship, hoping that when the time came she would share that with me. And it's like, when it happened, I felt like passed the test! Many more tests to come, I'm sure. :)

After typing all that, I realize that a lot of the "success" in that situation is due to the way society has changed, being more open about periods, probably learning more about it in schools, especially compared to whatever my mother had learned. Internet changed everything too. We're likely all better informed parents (maybe too informed? Dr. Google, etc) thanks to the internet, mommy channels, etc. So much more opportunity to share and ask questions.

Its very hard to break those paterns. My mother was not present. She unfortunately sufferd for a very long time within suicidal tendencies. I never really had a relationship with her. I moved halfway across the country to try to have one, and still something in her doesnt want that. I will never let my kids feel that way. I am their rock. I wish my grandmother could have been a better mother to my own, but she lost a child to a hit and run when my mother was wee little, and she never learned how to fully love me. I am taking all my strength as a female to balance work, and home so my children can be better parents themselves.

I can't understand how she's a talk show host, she doesn't sound smart enough for that position. Having fans doesn't translate to becoming a talk show host, I hope I'm wrong but I don't see her show lasting long
