Katey Sagal & Kurt Sutter (PIE, Sons of Anarchy) join us this week as (potentially) our first married couple to share their experience working together on the hit series Sons of Anarchy, finding love through sobriety, and fighting for marriage while giving grace to your partner at their lowest. Kurt talks about the creative inception of Sons of Anarchy, while Katey shares her gratitude for being able to get out of the comedic box that she was put into after the success of Married With Children. We also talk about the working relationship between a director and actor, Katey’s rockstar origins in Hollywood, and Kurt’s upcoming series The Abandons.

I love that the four Bundys are all in a group chat and talk to each other all the time. That's great.

Been catching Married with Children reruns on Logo, and it's so god damn funny. So much wordplay went over my head as a kid.
She's so damn awesome in EVERYTHING she does.
People don't realize the prototype for the Bundy's was, "what if SAM KINISON was married to ROSEANNE BARR". And when FOX couldn't get Sam and Roseanne to play those parts, it was all about who could best reinterpret those characters while keeping the required chemistry that makes them believable as a family. Ed and Katey as a team were magic.

That's kind of ironic seeing how Rosanne went on to do her show with John Goodman, maybe not quite the same dynamic, but it was Fox, so....
Love Married With Children, it was fantastic for it's time and I still enjoy it today when I come across clips. People would lose their minds today if a tv show was made like that, haha.
Always warms my heart when I hear the bundy actors still keep in touch all these years later. ❤️
It's great that she has such great memories of the show.
The first episode... I couldn't get over "Peg Bundy" being in the show... by the end of the second episode... she was Gemma.
I love her voice so much

I thought at first "Peg Bundy and Jack Tripper. Yawn". A few minutes in and it's something different.
When I first saw S.O.A, I was squinting my eyes like there was no way that's Katey Sagal
Katey, please dont kill me for this, but I'm a huge Futurama fan and I definitely heard Leela when you laughed! So cool.
Her voice is relaxing I’m glad she was able to break away from PEG‼️
As a Romanian, the Bundy's are very similar to some of the people in my country. That's why it was so popular here.

So good to hear you stay in contact with the old crew.
Being like "wait a second, is that Peggy Bundy?" is what got me to watch SOA initially.
She had a perfect Tales From the Crypt episode too.
Kurt has always reminded me of Uncle Al jergouson of Ministry. Like Kurt could be his little brother and I would believe it. That’s a compliment.
Amazing actress.
Also loved her as the voice of Leela in Futurama.
In my heart, she’ll always be Leela ❤
SOA made the Sopranos look like a kids show. Gemma was terrifying!
I still remember when King Kong Bundy put his head through the Bundy's front door on Married with children😂

If I recall correctly, I saw an interview with the creator of Married With Children who said he imagined it with Rosanne and Sam Kinison.
Star Trek captains are our surrogate fathers and TV sit-com Moms are surrogate Moms. Katey may not have been the best TV Mom but she was a Great TV Mom!
I loved that character . She’s a great actress but to me she played that role !
She knew how play Gemma in really great
Wish they did an S.O.A prequel
She really did two completely different characters. One was sexy and funny and one was intimidating and kind of scary.
we need a reunion Peg

Bruh Katey is a damn Vampire … ❤
The best measure of effective acting/writing is when you have genuine emotion toward who you know to be a fictional person. And boy did I hate that gash Gemma!!
I have said this before..Katey is literally Americas Mom. the mom in Married, Sons, 8 simple rules, big bang theory, tucker, that 70s show, tell me lies..the list goes on
Almost two minutes before she was able to chime in. Glad she did. Did the dudes even know she was there?
What an amazing character she is. I just finished watching the Conner’s on Netflix and she gelled so well after Roseanne’s departure.
but then she goes off and voices a cartoon character on a comedy series (Futurama). So much for getting out of that comedic box.

They want to step out of their norm ,.. delve into different roles
Anytime i hear an actor or actress say they're glad they were finished playing a character that made them famous in my opinion they're ungrateful and unappreciative. I mean name one thing katey sagal was in that made her famous and relevant? Answer: there aint anything if it wasn't for married with children katey sagal wouldn't even have a career the same goes for ed O'Neil, christina applegate, and david faustino hell the entire cast for that matter. They were nobodies before married with children and that's a fact.
Potatoes!
Funny how people who would be NOTHING always seem to complain about the thing that made them either famous or rich or recognized. The most true people in entertainment that I've worked with, whether it was a big star or a one hit wonder or flash in the pan, were those who always said, they were GRATEFUL for the opportunity that it provided and how many others NEVER even got a shot or a small glimpse of what they did. So, without that "comedic box" that such a problem for Ms. Segal, she wouldn't have been seen by ANYBODY and wouldn't be being interviewed by anybody and probably been another background singer that I've worked with dozens if not hundreds of, some of whom are more talented than many so-called stars that are out there now, but would rather have the anonymity of what they do vs the attention. But humility and gratefulness is in VERY short supply for many in the entertainment world.

Maybe SHE felt stifled by the role to where people wouldn't stop calling her Peg Bundy everywhere she went and that may have caused her to have some sort of meltdown or whatever far as getting other gigs. You have remember that MWC made US feel good but we also have to consider what's on the other side of makes us happy.....
She was in lost?
Couldn't you imagine M.W.C. coming out now for Gen. X? They'd have a meltdown?😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I feel like al Bundy stalks me. These people live in a single moment in time that happened 8 years ago. Everyday it's just Al and his triple touchdown game. I haven't even been outside in a decade from drugging and poisonings and still I meet new people still living in high school.
@nadapuesnada7716

It was four touchdowns in a game.
is she also relieved not being overpaid anymore for her role on Married with Children?
There is such a thing as being a victim of your own success. I suspect Ed O'Neill had it worse than Katey. For years after MWC I would automatically start laughing when I saw him. I think the person with the worst dose of this ever was Carol O'Connor. It took him a LONG time to get away from the Archie Bunker character. I am not sure that Henry Winkler was ever really to get away from the Fonzie character.
UHHhhhhhh.......No Peg
To me she'll always be Leela. Katey Sagal is a wonderful actress. I always enjoy watching her in things..... Well except that Boston legal episode where she played a mum sleeping with her son 😶🤢

What’s surprising to me is the cast getting grilled about “do you think it’s right that….” about the subject matter on Married…With Children. It really isn’t the show to retroactively go back and try to have this moral stance about a TV SHOW. It was the 80’s/90’s and people had a lot more freedom to try things comedically that might now have been PC. They worried about being FUNNY above all. I don’t think any of the actors should offer any kind of apology for their roles. That’s just how things were back in those times. As far as I know, the show is still airing somewhere on TV right now. I’m surprised social media hasn’t gotten ahold of it to make think pieces on how offensive and “triggering” it is. Ha!
Woody? I hope you feel as bad as you should making that comparison to a queen of her craft. You need to apologize.
Adored Peg Bundy.
I lost my ******** to Peggy Bundy.
She will always be Peg Bundy to me.
meanwhile, she goes to the Connor's......smdh
4:35 100%, have always said that Al Bundy was an Archie Bunker-type character And just like Bunker, there are outlandish people out there who missed the point that we were supposed to laugh AT those characters far more than WITH them
It's a terrible tragedy to me how Ed O'Neil went from being the quintessential misogynist as Al Bundy to that terrible show with the woke nonsense.
Thats so interesting, you act funny but not actually be funny
