Katey Sagal & Kurt Sutter (PIE, Sons of Anarchy) join us this week as (potentially) our first married couple to share their experience working together on the hit series Sons of Anarchy, finding love through sobriety, and fighting for marriage while giving grace to your partner at their lowest. Kurt talks about the creative inception of Sons of Anarchy, while Katey shares her gratitude for being able to get out of the comedic box that she was put into after the success of Married With Children. We also talk about the working relationship between a director and actor, Katey’s rockstar origins in Hollywood, and Kurt’s upcoming series The Abandons.

People don't realize the prototype for the Bundy's was, "what if SAM KINISON was married to ROSEANNE BARR". And when FOX couldn't get Sam and Roseanne to play those parts, it was all about who could best reinterpret those characters while keeping the required chemistry that makes them believable as a family. Ed and Katey as a team were magic.

Anytime i hear an actor or actress say they're glad they were finished playing a character that made them famous in my opinion they're ungrateful and unappreciative. I mean name one thing katey sagal was in that made her famous and relevant? Answer: there aint anything if it wasn't for married with children katey sagal wouldn't even have a career the same goes for ed O'Neil, christina applegate, and david faustino hell the entire cast for that matter. They were nobodies before married with children and that's a fact.

Funny how people who would be NOTHING always seem to complain about the thing that made them either famous or rich or recognized. The most true people in entertainment that I've worked with, whether it was a big star or a one hit wonder or flash in the pan, were those who always said, they were GRATEFUL for the opportunity that it provided and how many others NEVER even got a shot or a small glimpse of what they did. So, without that "comedic box" that such a problem for Ms. Segal, she wouldn't have been seen by ANYBODY and wouldn't be being interviewed by anybody and probably been another background singer that I've worked with dozens if not hundreds of, some of whom are more talented than many so-called stars that are out there now, but would rather have the anonymity of what they do vs the attention. But humility and gratefulness is in VERY short supply for many in the entertainment world.

There is such a thing as being a victim of your own success. I suspect Ed O'Neill had it worse than Katey. For years after MWC I would automatically start laughing when I saw him. I think the person with the worst dose of this ever was Carol O'Connor. It took him a LONG time to get away from the Archie Bunker character. I am not sure that Henry Winkler was ever really to get away from the Fonzie character.

What’s surprising to me is the cast getting grilled about “do you think it’s right that….” about the subject matter on Married…With Children. It really isn’t the show to retroactively go back and try to have this moral stance about a TV SHOW. It was the 80’s/90’s and people had a lot more freedom to try things comedically that might now have been PC. They worried about being FUNNY above all. I don’t think any of the actors should offer any kind of apology for their roles. That’s just how things were back in those times. As far as I know, the show is still airing somewhere on TV right now. I’m surprised social media hasn’t gotten ahold of it to make think pieces on how offensive and “triggering” it is. Ha!
