“When I first read Wuthering Heights I thought the story was so strong. This young girl in an era when the female role was so inferior and she was coming out with this passionate, heavy stuff. Great subject matter for a song.
I loved writing it. It was a real challenge to precis the whole mood of a book into such a short piece of prose. Also when I was a child I was always called Cathy not Kate and I just found myself able to relate to her as a character. It's so important to put yourself in the role of the person in a song. There's no half measures. When I sing that song I am Cathy.
(Her face collapses back into smiles.) Gosh I sound so intense. Wuthering Heights is so important to me. It had to be the single. To me it was the only one. I had to fight off a few other people's opinions but in the end they agreed with me. I was amazed at the response though, truly overwhelmed.”

So hauntingly beautiful, it’s like she’s actually reaching out to Heathcliff and calling him softly. And that guitar solo at the end feels like ascending to heaven
I don’t think a lot people still get how groundbreaking this show was in terms of being the first of some of so many live shows that are seen today. Yes, there was Bowie, but this show as a template for Madonna, then…up to Taylor Swift... Just incredible! ❤❤❤
Alan Murphy playing his take on Iain Bairnson's BEAUTIFUL solo at the end is just supernatural.
Written at the age of 16 Kate Bush gifted us one of the most beautiful pieces of art in the modern era. Just saying.
Kate is a genius writer, singer, dancer, performer. And THAT is how the bass guitar should be played (Del Palmer whoop).
The solo at the end is something I keep coming back to. Pure perfection. Inspired.
Her waving, jumping gets me weepy-weepy. What's not to love?

@Daniel.W.Bridge Look up the wonderful old movie of the same name. Apparently, Kate loved it (and probably the book). Read the synopsis and the song will come to life for you.
Those who knew how to sing became a singer, those who didn't know how had to look for something else, now anyone becomes a singer even if they don't sing anything

Audience appreciating Kate. Kate appreciating the audience. She has the greatest smile - waving and jumping up and down with glee reveals why she is so universally adored. We can relate to her.

I have always loved this song. I come back to it every few years and binge listen to it for days... Something about Kate's voice and free flowing dance movements just takes me to a different place. The outro guitar lead is phenomenal... Great job by Alan Murphy and lest we forget Lian Bairnson played on the original studio track. Rip to both gentlemen.

Same here! I think it was the extra high pitch and I couldn't understand the lyrics. Hated it! Now after all these years it's been haunting me lately and I've read the lyrics. Obsessed and overawed by her talent 😮
