Goodness, how pleasing to see the actual Fenby from her song, and the film from whence came her idea. The more I play vids about Kate, the more these wonderful old rarities pop up. Thanks to all who preserved the bits that reveal her genius.

I'm glad I found this video, I thought the name Delius in her song was in reference to some Greek god of Summer. And now I also know what the "Ta, ta, ta" in the song is about; always thought it was eerie and came from nowhere, but from watching the clip of that movie in this video it makes perfect sense. Looks like an interesting film and story.

Kate Bush is always so dignified and lady-like. She puts the men to shame.

As a kid , I used to see Harty on TV all the time and, like Wogan, you just accepted him as omnipresent... But now you can see what a bitter old queen he was... '...that Kate Bush display we've just witnessed' and 'haven't we been into Bronteland?'... Kate's face just says it all when she replies "yes "we" have..' Ie: fuck you Harty!!

He was capable of better than this, I grant you that. Before either were famous, he was a friend of no less a writer than Alan Bennett. They met when they were both teaching at Giggleswick Preparatory School for boys. So I assume he could hold up a better conversation than this. He trivialised himself in pursuit of celebrity. I'm not surprised Grace Jones biffed him - he's so irritating!

The Ken Russell show about Delius is now on DVD in the US! Look for "Ken Russell at the BBC" on amazon! Yay, it's about time.

Grace Jones slapping Russell Harty is on here, under "BBC TV Hell - Chat Shows Part 1", I think. It's some way in.

No, don't give up. Just play the clip again. The presenter does an excellent job of summarising exactly who Eric Fenby was. All you have to do is pay attention.

Kate Bush was (and still is) amazing! I liked Russell Harty: he was good to work with and was certainly nobody's fool! Russell had a style of presentation that endeared him to the viewing public. He was a very, very nice man and a true professional. Sadly missed! Are those EMI 2005 cameras briefly appearing in shot???

If you type "BBC TV Hell - Chat Shows Part 1" (it's over there in the list just to the right), you'll find that this includes the Grace Jones/Russell Harty episode, though it takes ages to get there.

@paulreed1 i agree, but she was a young pop singer at the time rather than the accomplished artist she is today- although I love NFE a lot. This was the way people were treated on the bbc back then!

One of her first interviews on the BBC was with Desmond Morris, who was completely respectful and engaging. She's a shy person, and not at all narcissistic - she always wrote for characters and stories rather than directly about herself, explaining that she considered herself rather boring. Her best interviews have been some of the extended conversations she has had with arts journalists on BBC radio, certainly this century, and her one interview about the success of Running Up That Hill was with Woman's Hour on Radio 4.

I don't think Kate got on with bras. In the late 60s a lot of women binned them and Kate was coming up to adolescense then. They are uncomfortable contraptions much of the time!
