This video was recorded by TROS tv in De Efteling, a fantasy-themed amusement park in Kaatsheuvel, the Netherlands. It was recorded in the attraction called 'Het Spookslot' ('The Haunted Castle').
Today, January 24, 2022, it was announced that this Haunted House attraction will be demolished to make place for a new attraction in the park. Kate Bush fans have a special memory of this particular castle and the stone with the inscription 'Kate Bush, shown in the very beginning of this video. It has been subject of many pilgrimages of fans.
In todays 'Frank and Eva' radioshow on Radio 3FM in the Netherlands, special attention was given to this great anecdote. Hopefully the stone will not disappear from the earth...
Catherine Bush CBE (born 30 July 1958) is an English singer, songwriter, and producer. She came to prominence in 1978, aged 19, when she topped the UK Singles Chart for four weeks with her debut single "Wuthering Heights", becoming the first female artist to achieve a UK number one with a self-written song. She has since released 25 UK Top 40 singles, including the top-10 hits "The Man with the Child in His Eyes", "Babooshka", "Running Up That Hill".
On 12 May 1978, the Dutch broadcaster TROS broadcast a 20 minute Kate Bush television special, recorded at the Dutch amusement park Efteling. On 10 May 1978, Efteling was ready to open the Haunted Castle, the most expensive attraction it had ever constructed, and they wanted to promote it as much as they could. Ton van der Ven, who designed the castle, appeared in a popular talk show and in April a documentary featuring the Haunted Castle was made by filmmaker Rien van Wijk, who was eager to shoot in the latest attraction before it officially opened. Kate, who just had a big hit with Wuthering Heights, was approached for a television special that would promote both Efteling and her songs. The special was filmed in April, a month before the official opening of the castle.
The Efteling TV Specia songs:
• "Moving" was filmed in the square in front of the Haunted Castle
• "Wuthering heights"; Kate can be seen inside the Haunted Castle. Among other things, a smoke machine was used.
• "Them heavy people" was filmed at 3 locations; in the attic of the castle, at the entrance with the oriental spirit and outside in front of the entrance of the well that is part of the attraction 'The Indian water lilies'.
• "The man with the child in his eyes" was filmed by the lake with gondolettes and swans
• Strange Phenomena, has the double shot with the mirror image and was filmed in the castle's catacombs.
• "The Kick Inside". Kate has gray hair in this shot and is lying in a boat surrounded by flowers on the lake and sailing away. This scene conjures up images of Elaine and The Lady of Shalott, classic poetic figures from the Arthurian legend.

I was 9 when this was broadcasted. I live near the Efteling and went there every year. Then there she was, on TV, in the perfect setting. Fairytale forrest, spooky, creepy... the perfect match. A witchy angel in a fairytale surrounding. What more does a 9 year old need to get hooked? Legendary!

A friend showed me Kate Bush 40 years ago. I didn't get her at all. In 2020, it was my most played artist on Spotify. I'm so glad that I can discover "new" music as long as I live.

I like Moving and Wuthering Heights from The Kick Inside... They both have the same haunting quality. The rest of the songs didn't impress me though.

knowing kate bush's work as a new fan is literally being completely obsessed over different songs of her every week... this week is "moving", last one was "army dreamers", "the infant kiss", "egypt", "babooshka" and there it goes

I was I think 14 when I discovered Kate Bush. I'm Israeli and Kate and her music represented so many beautiful things to me. I was an anglophile anyhow in those years. I remained a hard core fan till my mid 20s. I even managed to find where she lived in one of my visits to England and threw a note over the high wall fence of what was her house then. It was so strange to find a letter from England many months later in my post office box then in Tel Aviv containing nothing but an official piece of paper inviting me to join her fan club. It wasn't addressed to me personally. It was just a formal invitation that I guess they handed out to people coming to her shows etc. I was disappointed that there was nothing personal in it and I was never one to join anyone's fan club. Still it was a proof to me that she did get the letter that I threw over her fence. She probably thought I was a crazy weirdo :) And it was probably kind of intimidating for her to know that a random fan found out where she lived. As I grew older her music and she stopped having this huge effect they had on me as a teenager and young woman. I guess that's only natural. Artists have such a huge impression on us when we're younger and the adult world and its possibilities seem so magical and sensual to us.
That was 'Moving!' What A Voice... Kate has a very unique voice, and she's quite theatrical! She would be Excellent on Broadway! Thank you for sharing! 💖

Kate Bush recorded 6 songs in total to the EFTELING SPECIAL. Although the masters don't exist anymore, you have a treasure in the U-Matic videotape. The Efteling Show is comprised of 6 songs. The ones available in youtube are blurred to the extreme, as they are 4th or 5th generation VHS copies of copies. You have THE BEST RECORDED VERSIONS. The image is superior and sharper than all the available versions. It may not be perfect, but it is the most perfect from the available options. PLEASE... POST THE WHOLE EFTELING SHOW. Hello Menro1... but they have U-matic vídeo machine originals. Have you noticed how this version of MOVING has a sharper image than all the others posted by fans? It is because it comes from the U-Matic original videotape. The 6 Efteling songs posted by fans are blurred to the extreme. They are 4th or 5th generation VHS copies of copies. This means TopPop has THE BEST RECORDED VERSION of the Efteling Show. The image is sharper. It may not be perfect, but it is the most perfect of all the available options.

Beautiful scenery but mostly her style of outfit. Long boots with white baggy shirt and red stripes flowing on the shirt. But mostly her beauty stayed the same with an interesting hairstyle remenisting of Japanese woman hairstyles

It was then in 1978 also the opening (10 May) of the haunted castle, 2 days later on 12 May was there the Kate Bush Efteling Special. The special was 20 minutes of 6 musicvideo's in the Efteling. If i'm right, she was then sleeping in the Hotel De Swaen in Oisterwijk. The haunted castle is after 40 years still in the Efteling, with the same show, only outside the castle is a little bit different.

I'm from the netherlands, don't live there any more, so now looking at the country from a distance, they're really good at destroying historic buildings left and right, they're really into anything new. i am happy that is changing now with new generations actually giving a darn about older buildings, but even now it's pretty bad there. and then I feel bad about myself about not being there to protest it or doing something about it! But I have been living in california for a long time now..but yes, so sad and incomprehensible that they're planning on demolishing this beautiful haunted house. many people in the netherlands don't really care one way or another about this so not sure what could be done about it

I've been to the Netherlands twice or three times and for I watched Kate's performance at Efteling, I wanted to come back there even more badly so I could go to the amusement park and go everywhere where she performed, not to mention that the house itself seems to be a great attraction. It's so sad most people don't really care about those heritages from the past :( I do hope it won't be demolished !! Is Efteling very famous there ?

It makes me more than just angry. It's all gone now! I have watched the building being build in 1977 and was there just 2 weeks after the opening / Filming of the Kate Bush videos. Haven't seen this magic place since 1988 - ( I don't live in the Netherlands anymore. ) These young kids in management don't know what they destroyed. Guess its life.. - the only thing that's left are memories.
