This is NOT Kate's first ever TV performance. That was on Magpie: a children's tv programme on ITV. She sang Wuthering Heights on that performance.

I'm not clear on this. Was Kate actually ON Magpie, or did they just show video of her? For that matter, I'd have to go back and look to see if she was actually singing on Bio's, or just dancing and miming. I've only seen one clip of the Magpie appearance, and the quality was so poor is was barely visible, and it was very short. Oh! Many years ago, I created a large Excel workbook with info on a lot of Kate Bush rare audio clips. And it does include the Magpie appearance. It shows the date as "1978 Feb ??" Do you have the date? If so, I'd certainly appreciate the favor of that tiny bit of data!

@@DavidInSugarLand Right, and playing a video on a show is something, but certainly not a real TV appearance. OTOH Bio's was a real, live appearance. Even if she mimed the song, that's still a much bigger matter.

Amazing, wonderful, Pretty... Wow! And best singer and performer, forever. I love her voice.

HighHopesBass-- Sorry, but you're wrong on all counts. She's obviously lip-syncing on this. And it's the original album cut. I guess you haven't heard it in a while, eh? They are using the two oldest tricks in the book to hide lip-syncing. No closeups and holding the mic right up to your face to hide the mistakes.

If you think she's not lip-syncing, I seriously question your intelligence. Look at how she holds the mic. It makes ZERO difference if that is the album cut or not. You're tossing red herrings because you know you're wrong. Anyone over the age of 6 could tell she's faking it to a recording of her own voice.

The clip was from 1932...live at the Nuremberg. She was 'warming up' for the main act from Hitler. See Goering there in the front row.!

I thought her first performance was on the British itv program magpie, where she performed wuthering heights

Seeing so many of these early performances, I sometimes wonder if she was given the right platform for her (in the beginning) rather theatrical and unusual artistry. The audiences always seemed so "stiff and austere."

I think she sounds a bit nervous in her voice.

Sounds like live vocals over pre-recorded music. To her credit, the difference is very subtle. Btw, what’s up with the camerawork? “Ach, nein! No zooming in on the beautiful girl! Stay on the audience!!!” Weird. ( C-100 )

Obviously the benefit of a young body is gone by now. But sings as perfect as she ever did, or shall I say close to perfect, and she releases still great music. Sometimes at least.

You can tell she's uncomfortable with lip-syncing. That's why they only show her from far away and she holds the microphone right up to her mouth to hide the syncing mistakes.

Doesn't take a trained ear to notice the mic pops, the shortness of breath..tone changes which are not on any of her recordings. This is the real deal and to my standards...a great performance
