The Karst Shepherd is a breed of dog of the livestock guardian type, originating in Slovenia.The Karst Shepherd is named after the Karst Plateau in Slovenia and more generally after the Karst landscape that extends to Croatia and partly in Bosnia and Herzegovina, from the Gulf of Trieste to the Dinaric Alps. Mostly bred in Slovenia and Istria in Croatia. The ancestral type of the modern day breed travelled with shepherds through this area, and most likely came with ancient nomadic pastoralists.

Cheep cost, modest eater. Very loyal. Very brave when cornered. Braver than GS or sarplaninac. Very much family dog. Loves children and other animals, if properly raised. Not for city and apartments. Needs some space, a farm is the best. The best ever when living with an owner who stays and works at home all the time. 20 minutes of walk or running daily suffices if he has some yard at home, but 40 minutes is better. Even on every second day if daily walks aren't possible. Life span 12-15 years, heard for 18 years old ones not far from me.
