    In Russia, this is a very common breed. But this is not a city dog, this is not for a city apartment. This dog should live outdoors. If there is a severe frost in winter, she will simply dig a hole in a snowdrift. This is a dog with a very strong character and independent, it is able to act without your guidance. Its owner must have a strong character to maintain his leadership. This dog is the best guard for your farm, she will not be afraid to fight with a pack of wolves and drive the bear away. If you need to protect your farm or your livestock, she is ready to fight even with Satan.

    As a student in St. Petersburg, Russia, I rented a room in a communal apartment and one alcoholic neighbor in the apartment had such a dog, always wandering the corridors, unattended. It was weird, to be honest, sometimes going to the kitchen or to the toilet, and arguing with a neighbor, although I had to. Thank God the dog, this monster, was not aggressive to me, although he was quite curious, always looked up close to what you were doing.

    My baby Niko was a Caucasian…and he was the sweetest baby in the world. He became something of a celebrity in our neighborhood due to his size, people were terrified of him…but after they got to see just how sweet he was…oh the loving he received. I was leaving one morning to go to work and two cops are outside my house looking in my backyard…I thought perhaps he had gotten out..no. They were there just to see this gigantic 207 pound dog.

    That's how I came to own & love them. My husband came home talking about a dog that looked like (to him) a husky/chow mix but weighing 180lbs. He had chatted with the owner & was informed the dog was a Caucasian Shepherd. I didn't believe him. What dog can weigh that much and isn't a mastiff breed? So I set about to research them & fell in love. But REAL breeders of COs are few in the USA. We, luckily, "spoke' with Ms. Tamara Follett and Stacy Kubrick learned so much from them & their books on the breed. We had an exotic animal farm bring our first boy into the USA for us. Even from 10 weeks, my boy, "Yogi Bear' (not his FSS/AKC name) was protective. Learning how instinctual that trait is, just wooed me. Ours too is well known in our community. We socialized him well -bank, police station, grocery store, parks, rivers, beach, even the ball field. He is quite the "lover boy'. And he knows when people are talking about him...he preens & shows off his growls/barks. He "talks' back at me "husky like", petulant teenager. Loves many people BUT he is no joke when he senses danger/aggression/anger.... We have had several issues where he & all his instincts were on display. He caught a naked homeless man using our water hose at 5AM & Yogi scaled an 8 foot fence & ripped the door to an RV open to get to the man. Man's words to police chilled me to bone but with Yogi, I know I'm safe. Yogi has defended our cattle from coyotes & wolves. Unfortunately, he had to defend against 3 pit bulls as well. Killing all 3. This breed is unique, wonderful, courageous & gentle while also being a predator's worse nightmare.

    I am from Chechnya and these beautiful dogs come from our region and they have always lived on the Caucasian ridge. They have been used by shepherds against wolves for centuries. When I was little, we had the same huge dog, but completely yellow, which is why we called him "Yantar" which means amber. Just like a Lion😍 Unfortunately, he was killed by soldiers and thrown into the river.. Miss you Yantar...

    My grandmother had one in 20 years ago. Rural Eastern Europe. Some of her chickens were started missing 3 or 4 each time she checked. A fox came for them every few nights. I've told her to let the 6 months old untrained, neglected Macko(Caucasian purebred) out to protect the chickens. Well, it wasn't a good idea, little Macko(means bear cub) got the fox, snapped its spine, opened it up like it's nothing. But also has killed 12-14 chickens. This breed needs attention, control, training. At least the gypsies stopped breaking in and stealing stuff. Caucasians are really good at their job.

I was depressed for almost a year when he passed away, do to old age. He was the best dog ever, to me he was just like family or best friend. I could not get over his passing, because until his passing I was with him since I was born until I was 12 and I spend almost 24\7 with him. The only time I wasn't with my dog was when I was in school, but otherwise he was with me non stop. It's been over 20 years since he passed and I still think about him almost every day. RIP Roly.

    Hvhyy Ifjj black bears no way, but Steppe wolves (the only wolf this dog will have to face in the Caucasus mountains) weighs on average 40 kg, so it’d be a close match for sure. But I am, just like you, tired of these anecdotes that these dogs are hunters. They’re purposely made to protect the herd and have done so successfully for generations through intimidation working as a coherent group (much like wolves). It Does the breed unjust to portray them as killers while they are loyal defenders instead

    I love the way he treats his dogs. Truth is, just focussing on agression when it comes to a protective dog won't get you anywhere, because you won't be able to control it. You need a level headed dog that knows when to be protective and when to stay calm. And you wont get there by treating a dog like a loaded gun. I know a guy that gets off on the fact that his dog has agression issues, and he doesn't realize that it just makes him look like a fool.

  • @yupyup1562

    I agree with the last two commenters. These dogs are large, very powerful and very protective. They are constantly scanning for threats and will jump fences, crash through windows, or drag someone by the leash to get at, and take out, what they perceive as a threat. Most dogs bark a lot first at threats to keep it away but these dogs will charge the threat. I was going to get one years ago for protection on land we owned but after much research and speaking with breeders, I chose against it. They truly are like a 45 caliber weapon in lethalness, and I just didn’t want to take on that kind of responsibility. As with all dogs, they are sweet and kind, but put in the right situation, they can be dangerous.

    My dad got one that was 1 month older than me and when I was like 4-5 years old, he would do a "drive-by" in which he would lick my whole face before running away leaving me literally breathless lol. Every winter, I would play with him in the snow, he would even pull my sled, and really loved sleeping in snow. In the mornings when my dad came out in the yard to call for him, he would just jump out of layers of snow and start running towards my dad. He lived for 14 years, and the saddest part was that skin cancer got him, not old age. I'm 26 years old now and I still miss him. he was a great family dog.

    I feel u. I had one as a pup he didn't live long he died at 3 months cuz of an infection. It broke my heart. I dunno why ppl take this breed to be severely aggressive but they are not. They only attack when what they are protecting is being attacked cuz that's what they are bred for

  • @ShadzWins

    @ShadzWins

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@Tektonik176 tl;dr People are intimidated by big dogs and aggression is symptom of isolation. Every pet can be really aggressive if you don't know what you're doing. Everyone talks about big dogs, why not small ones? In my experience smallest dogs are ones of the most aggressive pets I've ever seen, I'm dead serious. They would even chase after dogs that are 5 times their size. It's because people who talk about big dogs are intimidated just by their size. I was visiting a friend that had pretty large German Shepard. The dog was 18 months old, and I didn't see my friend in like 2 years. Anyways, I was entering his house when all of sudden the dog just starts rushing towards me like hes gonna kill me. The dog got right in front of me before lifting both front legs on my arm (because I didn't want to get stabbed by both paws in my chest) and started licking me all over, biting my hand gently, nearly knocking me down (and I'm big dude, 190cm 110 kg). In this situation (and few seconds before), most of the people would get scared shitless, calling the dog aggressive. He was just a young dog that was happy to see someone new who he could interact with. The biggest reason for having a aggressive pet IMO is just being a bad teacher. If you expose them from early age to other people, walk them down the street, let them interact with everything, 99% of the time that pet will be a best pet you could ask for, because they will be less paranoid and more relaxed around unfamiliar surroundings/people. Locking them in the house without any interaction except the owner is a bad idea. Of course hes gonna be aggressive if you do things like that. Few more pages and I can release a book lol.
