Karpov didn't run out of time. Also it was a routine drawn position requiring no thought for Karpov. With 2 seconds added per move Karpov would easily avoid losing on time and they would soon reach the 50 move draw rule.

@@lasaventurasdevitoelgatoma3405 Even a patzer like myself can see by the locked pawns that no significant progress can be made. Did you not notice that there is a 2 second increment? It would be easy for Karpov to avoid flagging in such a simple position.
