Note the one time Svidler makes a move, his piece falls over, and he hits the clock *before* he adjusts the board. This happens all the time in Blitz, but here Svidler throws up an apologetic hand in recognition of the breach of etiquette. I love how Svidler hides his face behind his hand as soon as he is losing.

That`s the typical Svidler mood when he plays; usually the players analyse after the game.

Today Magnus swept the floor with Karjakin with black pieces. Impressive to bounce back so quickly after a big loss.

@Volumep Off course age is important. Like in anything else, you gain experience the more you play. As you play the more you pick up and learn, both with your chess game and mental game. Magnus Carlsen is alot better chess player at 18 than when he was 16. He will also be better suited and probably master the game even better when he is 21. Age is definately a factor.

javilack, the time controls for this year's WBC are 3' + 2" instead of 5' flat. Not sure if the players voted on it or not, but it's a much superior rule that eliminates the debasing final-seconds time scramble. Remember Krush flagging in the US Ch. blitz playoff when she enjoyed a time advantage of seven seconds to two? I don't blame her for being pissed. These guys, though, move very precisely and respectfully, and that continues til the final seconds.

@adhdboy699 the time controls are: you are controlled by the time you live in. it is out of your control to live in a different time. if you cannot make anything happen in this time, then you have no self-control over activities that distract you from making things happen now.

Carlsen wins by 3 points ahead of World Champion Anand.Reminds me of Fischers dominating performance in the 1970 Blitz event.

@Fupper16 If black takes with the queen, white can take the pawn on d3, and if black takes with the pawn on g7 instead of the queen, there is no king protection anymore.

g5 looked desperate, and the Rb8 chasing the bishop only to attack it with Ra8 is a waste of a move. Why not let Carlsen take on a6 and play an attacking move like f5?

Despite seeming bold, I must say these guys play endgames quite poorly. For example, at 7:28 Carlsen plays Kb6, letting the black's King reach the pawns and stop them, instead of playing h5 which wins easily. He is won anyway, but thanks to the subtlety that his King prevents black's Bishop from getting to e4 stopping the h pawn. Otherwise Svidler would have been able to capture on a5 and stop the h pawn on h7. I don't think Magnus had seen all this, though.
