Jenny of Oldstones
Written by Ramin Djawadi, Daniel Weiss, David Benioff and George R. R. Martin
Arranged and performed by Karliene Reynolds
Mixed by Nick Dawes www.mixing-mastering-online.com/
- | LYRICS |-
High in the halls of the kings who are gone
Jenny would dance with her ghosts
The ones she had lost and the ones she had found
And the ones who had loved her the most
The ones who'd been gone for so very long
She couldn't remember their names
They spun her around on the damp old stone
Spun away all her sorrow and pain
And she never wanted to leave, never wanted to leave
Never wanted to leave, never wanted to leave
They danced through the day
And into the night through the snow that swept through the hall
From winter to summer and winter again
'Til the walls did crumble and fall
And she never wanted to leave, never wanted to leave
Never wanted to leave, never wanted to leave
And she never wanted to leave, never wanted to leave
Never wanted to leave, never wanted to leave
High in the halls of the kings who are gone
Jenny would dance with her ghosts
The ones she had lost and the ones she had found
And the ones who had loved her the most

I might be in the minority here, but I’m getting the same feeling I get when I listen to Once Upon a December from Anastasia. Both songs are in a sense about the pain of remembrance, as well as the difficulty in recalling memories and people who were once dear to them. Regardless, I love this song:)

I love both songs! They give me such a melancholy... I become sad when I listen to them but at the same time they are so beautiful ♥️
I’ve never seen game of thrones, so I don’t have the slightest clue what this song is about. The weird and definitely incorrect interpretation I came up with is that Jenny is a little girl who lives in an old castle with a library up high in a tower. She loves reading books. Stories of great adventurers from ages long ago. By “Dance with her ghosts” it means she reads these long-forgotten stories, in some small way keeping these people alive in her memory. She imagines them around her, doing their amazing feats. Whenever she reads she gets lost in the books, forgetting about the outside world, not wanting to stop reading. Not wanting to “leave” I like how wholesome I managed to make this creepy song seem.

I have no idea how I came up with the idea that “dance with her ghosts” could mean reading books of dead adventurers. It could be a metaphor for that (a bit of a strange one, but whatever), but I don’t know why my brain decided to make that connection.

Your voice is so beautiful, I love it, really. Ps: I found this cool lyrics to The Rains of Castemire in the internet. :) O mountains old O mountains deep With gold & steel & stone How many lions Have died for pride? Do e'en you mountains know? Though lions no More stalk your cliffs Wherever men may walk Those Westermen Still bow before The Lion of the Rock And when that mighty lion roars All wise men bow in fear Beneath the stars of Tarbeck Hall And the rains of Castamere One long night The Red Reynes sowed A crop for fools to reap While ‘neath the shade Of his mountain cave The lion lay asleep And then came dawn Harsh and clear On a court of prideful lords And that golden lion Of Lannister Woke & snarled & roared. The mountains heard that mighty roar As it echoed loud and clear Over the stones of Tarbeck Hall For Lord Reyne of Castamere And who are you The proud lord said That I must bow so low Only a cat Of a different coat That's all the truth I know In a coat of gold Or a coat of red A lion still has claws And mine are long & sharp my Lord As long and sharp as yours. And so he spoke, and so he spoke, That Lord of Castamere But now the rains weep o'er his halls And no one there to hear. Yes, now the rains weep o'er his halls And not a soul to hear.

Wow that’s a great voice. Love the lyrics, sounds like an eternal waltz in a crumbling keep. Reminds me of Dragonlance with War of the Twins as Lord Soth sits on his throne watching the Elven Banshees in his hall. Beautifully somber.
I'm stunned. I'm in tears. It's just so beautiful, oh my god. I don't even have the words the way this makes me feel.

OMG so fast Karliene !! Thank you !!!
Yes I'm so glad you covered this happy tears!
Little story time for everyone: early this morning an unoccupied flat in my building blew up and before I knew it my own flat (last floor last flat) was filled with smoke. Everyone is fine, but I had this moment, after packing my cat in his carrier and calling my mum to tell her shit was going down that I thought we wouldn’t. I couldn’t open the door and get out of the building because the stairs were full of smoke; and I couldn’t open the windows to let the smoke out because the fire was already licking the exterior wall of the building and sending more smoke past my windows. I ended up sticking our heads out a tiny attic window to get some air and wait out the firefighters. I’ve slept an hour in the past five I am so jumpy and alert to all the loud noises now. So I ended up listening to most of your songs because of how soothing you sound. So yeah, thank you. Also, your voice fits this song, the same way Florence Welch’s (aka the goddess of the universe) does, and I think that that is a difficult task.
Herd this song I instantly thought of you 🤩 Beautiful as always ❤️❤️
There was no way in this universe you were never gonna cover this song, and I'm so happy to hear it! This is stunning, and I love that combination of Florence's version and the medieval Podrick vibes in this. Perfect.
