dude nick's definition of stan went so hard, stans as they exist like karl was saying is obviously much lighter and also true, but nick really nailed a deep part of what makes the more extreme/twitter stans the way they are
@kalkxx

fr, i agreed with all their takes on it. even though i might be biased because i am a huge fan of karl who is pretty active in the twitter community and knows a lot about stan culture in general lmao. but one thing that karl said which really stood out to me was the fact that people in his community/the mcyt community in general are such a huge target for bullying and harassment online is because of the demographic of his viewers. and hes right, most of his viewers are young/teenage girls or lgbtq teens, which sadly can never seem to catch a break on the internet because of older boys from different communities that think theyre cooler than everyone else😭😭

I just wanted to say that I appreciate Karl mentioning how young girls CANNOT catch a break on the internet. Expressing interest in anything gets you stuck in a rabbit hole that someone will shit on you endlessly for. Being a fan of anybody (internet famous or regular famous), as a teen girl, will automatically land you in the stan label regardless of your level of involvement in the fanbase/community. It's nice to see someone paying attention to the make up of their fanbase and how they are perceived online.

Young girls do have some pretty shit taste sometimes though, like the ones who loved early Justin Bieber. Or everybody who raved over One Direction. @@coasterthekid8867 If anything the fact that the music successfully appeals to a massive audience and was hugely successful suggests that a significant number of people agree that the music is good, and just because you have a different opinion (that puts you in the minority) doesn't make those people's opinions "wrong." It's pretty easy to see the appeal in easily palatable music sung by people who are conventionally attractive. It's just carefree entertainment, which most people like in some form or another.

1:09:00 As someone who isn’t famous or anything I’ve had a few “oh that’s what it’s like to be famous” moments in my life. Once I learned stans can be super crazy. At my first apartment in LA my roommate and I would have a young music influencer stay with us when he was in town. He has posted some snapchats/Instagram posts from our balcony, and some girl like was triangulating exactly where we lived from the picture and spent literally every penny she had to fly all the way across the county and SLEPT on the side of our apartment building trying to meet him. Unfortunately the police ended up getting involved and anything. Anyways be a fan, but please don’t go to peoples homes.
not gonna type a whole paragraph for this, but the “stans” segment genuinely made me have a completely different perspective on Karl and content creators’ relationship with their audience in general. I always come here for heehees and hahas but it’s nice to be occasionally blindsided by straight spitting of facts. …frontyard pod when though?
@bibubbletea
Жыл бұрын
Super interesting to hear, what did he say specifically made you think differently if you don’t mind sharing?
@aperson1412
Жыл бұрын
@@bibubbletea mostly the idea that stans are essentially inherently generational; every KZread “era” and group has some, it just looks different depending on where you are. prime example is Carson’s stanbase being edgy band kids compared to the current stanbase of majority girls. retrospectively, it really is hypocritical for people like hugbox to complain about “pandering” when they essentially do the same thing to a different, slightly older demographic. [v personal rant, don’t have to read this v] personally, I think every cc has a responsibility to make sure their base has a model to follow in order to keep them in line. as was said in the video, most of the time stans are simply just using the identity of a cc to connect with others as they mature, so if your identity and presence is centered around confrontation and toxicity (like a certain green blob) or unabashed, unchecked “irony” (like cmc) the result is a following that reflects that, UNTIL you step in to interfere. Ludwig’s “not your friend” video is a perfect, brilliant example of this, and while he complains about not having a bigger following, he might’ve had one if he never uploaded that video, albeit not a following to be proud of. karl, as far as I know, is one of the only mcyt group of people that went out of their way to set objective guidelines for what he expects from his community, and as far as I’m concerned, that’s exactly the type of thing people need to do but don’t out of fear of losing an audience or general backlash, which is many things in addition to cowardly. a fanbase of millions will have thousands of stans, and those stans NEED guidance that community figureheads have to provide, lest you get batshit people staining your reputation. [rant over lmao]
@lefttrixx
Жыл бұрын
as someone who is a “stan” i really do appreciate karl kind of sticking up for people who genuinely just want to meet and connect with people who have the same interests as them. he spoke about hyperfixations and just being utterly obsessed with something not only because you WANT to be, but because it really does take up your mind. his demographic isn’t typical and i’m glad that he’s learned to run with it and understand us, because at some point he was us. idk i sound dumb but it did mean a lot to me because being in a community like mine is so exhausting
i think it’s so cool that you guys talked about how karl and other creators feel about like the saturation of compliments so often because i’ve always thought about whether or not creators truly believe what all these fans are saying whenever they say something nice to them because some times it’s just repeated so much yknow

The iPhone backtap thing is actually real Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Back Tap (all the way at the bottom) It's kinda iffy but once you get a hold of it you can make it work every time. You gotta hold the phone still, but also not completely still because it relies on the physical movement of the phone, but if it moves to much it won't register the input. That's why there's no single tap, only double and triple tap.
Aiden is definitely right about the back of the IPhone being a button, I've been using that for ages to open shazam. It tends to open on accident very frequently when it's not intended but it is helpful when wanted.
