I’ve learned many things studying as a classical musician over the past decades. One of those priceless lessons comes from my mentor Kevin Schempf on leaning into the difficulty. With clarinet that’s not performing up to expectation, you can spend time adjusting reeds in the middle of a performance or you can adjust your embouchure, (how you put the reed and mouthpiece into your mouth). The same can be said for the camera you use or the scenario in which you use it. Work with what you have, not with what you wish you had or hoped for and you’ll find that as you dig you can make beautiful music, art even in the most undesirable of situations.
