Works out great. The nice thing about these hard labor jobs is that there is more than enough work to go around because so many people don’t want to do them anymore. So the way you do business reminds me a lot of how my dad does business. Means you’re a good guy.

It was in a remote industrial area and a company had really bad financial problems. They were about to close the business. Since there quite large this means that it would impact the whole eco-system of the area. The CEO of another large company of the industrial area view this as a threat for he whole area economy, so what he did was give his financial director part time for 6month free of charge to help the other business get over the bad days. This to say you don't always get bigger by crushing the others.

Absolutely. I run a gunsmithing shop, but I know two other gunsmiths in my area. We don't even bother calling each other "competition" because me and one of them just do it as side work, and that third guy is retired and just does it for fun and extra money. We all know each other, and I actually got into the business because of that retiree who taught me a few basics before I got into Senoran Desert Institute. But even if we did do gunsmithing as a main job, there's still enough work to go around. It's not a big deal, really. If one of us gets a job were not equipped to deal with we'll send it to one of the other guys. That makes both our businesses look good in the eyes of the customer, and guarantees that they feel like they're being valued instead of jerked around.

I don't look at massage therapist as competitors. We all bring something to the table. Each of us have different skill sets, different tool boxes, and different life experiences. All of this contributes to our practice. And if I am unable to provide a service for my client, or a specialty, I have no problem referring them to another practitioner so they can have better care. That being said. One instance I had a client asked me for a full body massage in 30 minutes oh, he was a big guy. I said no not possible. So he got an upper body massage. He then booked with a another massage therapist and asked for the same thing, and got the same answer. I tried to say that it could be done. The thing is, we work together. In most clinics that I have worked in we keep soap notes. This is your cya notebook with your client. Any communication, plans, techniques used, and observations that you have are generally put in these notes. I had another client who had come in intoxicated. The front desk noticed his condition, but declined to question him on it. He had done this before with another therapist, however she did not notate her SOAPs that he cannot come in while he's intoxicated. So I got that dubious honor. And then I updated the Soaps stating that he has been informed that he cannot come in when he's drunk. It's very important in our professions to have open communication with our competitors as well as our co-workers. That way when circumstances such as these come up, there is open communication and we know what is going on, or we can find out what is going on.

I can't stand these ritzy customers who haven't a CLUE on the actual job they aren't qualified to do, which is why they call someone BUT to LIE or demand that you do something you KNOW Isn't safe? Not worth the lawsuit basically. I'm a 3rd generation glazer so I feel for you on the "safety" aspect as well as these karens who use their husband's money to get what they want. Love you TikTok content btw!

Sometimes, the more money people have, the more they think of you as a peon, insignificant enough to do anything for a price. I've also come across self made millionaires, who understood the meaning of hard labor and treated you as if you were family. They put out food and beverages for you, and if they could, they wouldn't mind putting on work clothes and working alongside you. They may be few and far between, but they are out there.

My dad had the same rule as you do how to treat competitors, employees and the waitresses that served him every week. When he passed these wonderful people outnumbered the number of family present. The waitresses that still had a uniform came in uniform. My dad #1. Taught us great lessons #2. Taught us how much respect for others really means. You are awesome and remind me of Another Good Man❤

And sometimes your competitor is a better option. I ran a hobby store. My customer wanted a particular puzzle, we carry it, but wouldn’t have it until the weekend.. after their daughters birthday. I called my competitor, they had it! I asked them to put it aside and set up the customer. The customer told me “I’m going to buy that puzzle there, but I will come back to your shop. You care about your customer.”🎉😊

As a Veteran on a fixed income it is so nice to see a company that has integrity. I just received a “free” roof inspection that told me my roof needs replacing and it is”the worst roof in 12 years they have ever seen”. I saw pictures and know I need work done but as a disabled veteran I can’t afford a new roof and don’t know who to trust. I haven’t been able to sleep since seeing the pictures of what’s going on with my roof but don’t know who to trust to give me an honest answer.

100% correct. In my industry we know everybody. When you get a shithead customer, it will be known and the "shithead" will ALWAYS pay the "trouble to deal with fee" no matter who they call. It's either that or pay travel time to a company from out of the area, and even if you do that, they will be wary as to WHY you are calling a company from outside the area. Just good sound business practice. AND, good on you for not making your guys do a job that you also would not be willing to do. YOU are a true boss and leader!!

James - Thanks for the great video. My boss taught me a valuable lesson. In business you do two things, make customers happy and turn a profit, they aren't mutually exclusive. It is really hard to say no to a customer, because word of mouth advertising is priceless. When you run into a customer that you can never make happy and will never make you any money, it is time to say no. You have to have standards, otherwise no one will respect you and your business will fail. It should go without saying that safety is one of those standards. Keep up the good work.

When I get customers like this, or the ones that say they saw how to do it online, or they have a friend that can do it, they get the same response. "Oh yeah? You should go ahead and call them then because we aren't doing it".
